knowledgable Z ppl...in here
what up everyone....im new to the board. first let me say, i do NOT drive a 350Z. i currently have a vortech supercharged 2001 mustang GT that runs 11s on pump gas and street tires.
but ive grown tired of it, and im starting to look for something different. but before i do, id like to do some research about the other "potentials". one, is a 350Z. i feel this would be a good car, because i did test drive one and it felt pretty strong, and i think with the DOHC motor it would respond very well to boost.
to that end, i think with a vortech, headers, and a rear gear change in a 6 speed car there shouldnt be no reason to not get the car into at least the mid 12s.
so heres my questions.
1. whats the stock compression ratio of these cars?
2. how durable is the rotating assembly? are the pistons forged? i dont want to add boost and blow the shortblock up 6 months later.
3. do they make aftermarket gears for the rear differential? if so, what is the stock gear ratio? i think a lower rear gear would be a very good benefit for these cars. but i have limited seat time.
4. what are the basic weak links in these cars? (i.e. trannys break easy, axles, etc)
5. who, and where could i get the car tuned, if i did get one? if i do, it wont be till next march, when i move to new orleans.
depending on the answers to these questions would determine whether id boost or spray the car. like i said im trying to get as much info as possible from the most knowledgeable people so i can make some informed decsions. and yeah i drive a mustang, but hey, more air, more fuel, more spark, more exhaust....more power.

hmmm...i dunno if id feel too comfortable boosting a car with that kind of CR.....although like you said, 7 psi, safe tune, im sure it would hold pretty well.
how are the trannys? i dont let off the gas when i bang gears, so ive broke my fair share. also, is the rear end independent? being japanese, im sure it is, but i gotta ask.

.There is a quiet good number of members running 7psi of boost for some time now and I did not hear of any problems with any of the drive train (except of course for the stock clutch) due to increase in HP. And yes the Z has an independent rear end.
