I completely agree. You accentuate my point, however that it didn't necessarily have anything to do with this particular car, but rather the VQ boosting to such high power levels given the physical limitations of the motor. I also know the rest of the story from the buyer, but that's not important. The cool thing is that this car is still running great and pulling (accidental) 14 PSI runs on the dyno!

I am one of Michael's best friends and there is always more to the story. He was pushing the car to it's limits, and due to the open waste gates, he couldn't hear any detonation. This scared him, and he always thought the car was about to blow. I always told him he was paranoid, but the fact is... he was worried.

I will be the first to admit that Jotech, and more importantly, Tony1 built a great car, and the fact that it is still running at high boost levels speaks volumes. If I had 40+K lying around, I would buy the car in a heartbeat. It is a only a few steps away from being one of the baddest Z's on this forum and a steal at anything less than 50K.

It is a waste gate that dumps into the atmosphere as opposed to the exhaust. It is loud as $#IT when it dumps. Most TT setups do not have open wastegates. I actually prefer them, as the car sounds MEAN!

I see. I wasn't aware that dumping to atmosphere made a waste-gate "open". Thanks for the clarification. Yes, the car does sound quite amazing. When I drove it, I kept accelerating and decelerating just to hear all the great sounds!!!!

I've seen some people use Yoshimura motorcycle slip-ons as open wastegates .

Motorcycle exhausts (just the muffler and pipe to the headers) are called "slip-ons". Sometimes they use small "slip-on mufflers" as an external wastegate.
