Default Open deck and closed deck

This is for thoes of you who don't know what the diferences are between open deck and closed deck designs. There are only pictures, and small discriptions.

HERE

Yes these are Subarus but still the same idea

If anyone wants to get into more detail feel free

I'll put together some other pics of VQs with open and closed dcks too

I'd be interested in what ppl would think a fair price would be to simply close the deck off? Say an AEBS re-sleeve?

I don't exactly know what the prices are to have the deck closed off (someone post prices). One thing that has been debated about is weather we need to close it off. If you ask some members thay say yes, while others say no.

If someone can or wants to go into some detail about this feel free to post here.

One more thing....Anybody got any pics on the VQ with both an opened and closed deck?

THANK YOU! I was going to ask in the other thread but I decided I had hijacked it enough.

latest word is that the VQ's sleeves are braced midway down the cylinder and can supposedly withstand power levels approaching 800 RWHP.

These statements are corroborated by the guys from SGP racing as well as Smithtown Nissan's drag race team, and some anecdotal evidence from Japan.

However, this probably isn't good enough for someone looking for streetable reliability. Furthermore, there are a number of additional advantages to a closed deck (headgasket sealing, for one) that make it a good idea.

Head gasket sealing with an open deck is ONLY a problem if the cylinders are not braced. The bores would have to "walk" for you to see a problem with head gasket sealing on an open deck motor. Since the cylinders in the VQ are braced halfway down, they CANNOT "walk". Therefore, you do NOT need sleeves unless you want overheating issues, or 1600hp.

In general the T/Mid sleeves cost about ~$1k and the installation ~1k.

If you don't plan on >800 crank hp , it appears to be hugely unecessary.
