Default My Vortech rattles like a can of spray paint

My Vortech SC/jackshaft area rattles like crazy!

It really sounds like when you shake up a can of spray paint. I can't tell whether it's coming from the jackshaft or the SC because I don't feel like sticking my hand or head down in there
when it's running.
I called Vortech and they said "maybe you overtensioned the serpentine belt and burned out the jackshaft bearing", but with my stretchy piece of crap goodyear gatorback belt, I think that's impossible. Then they said to try tightening the hex bolt on the SC gear, which I guess I'll try.

So two questions:
1. Anybody have this spray paint can rattle? and how did you fix it?

2. Where can I find a gates belt for this SC on the net, because no one in South FL seems to carry gates.

I assume your talking about this sound at idle and cruise..right? Not detonation.

I had a sound similar to what you described. The bolt that holds the 6 groove pulley on to the fron t of the jackshaft was loose. Tightening it made the soud disappear.

mine does it at low idle rpms below800, mine did get much better when i loosened the adjuster pulley, the pulley on the back of the bracket in the middle, you dont want that real tight, tightening the sc hex doesnt help at all.

I'm gonna mess with it tomorrow.

Yea, GQ, I should have clarified that, It's at idle and low rpm.
If it was detonation, my thread would have a whole different title!

I fixed 90 percent of the noise. The screw bolt that holds the notched pulley onto the jackshaft was very loose. (from the factory) I tightened it and it's pretty quiet now.

Im not sure if you would be willing to do this but you can have someone tack weld it, that would definetly solve the problem
