Default Walbro fuel pump

How hard is it to install a Walbro fuel pump? Is it doable at home or do I have to take it to the shop? I want to upgrade my fuel pump later and adding water injectors.

its very doable. You simply remove the stock fuel pump assembly, and swap out the pump. You will need a dremel to grind down the pump and clip...but thats the only mod needed.

make sure you have an extra gasket in case you deform it.

Mine is just being installed, so for those of you who have done the swap...

Have you noticed any hesitation when starting the engine with the walbro installed?

The walbro doesn't have the spring-loaded check valve like the stock fuel pump does (which keeps the fuel in the fuel line after the pump is shut off).

You need to give it a few seconds with the igition switched on to let it pressurise the fuel system before cranking the motor over.

No hesitation at all, and you did hear it pressurize the system when you turn the key, a little louder than the stock pump.

The fuel system is never really cleared of fuel even with the stock pump.

Exactly...the Walbro 255 is identical in design and construction as the stocker...just flows more. When I turn the key to "on", I hear the pump flowing for about 1.5 seconds. THere should be no hesistation on start or lack of fuel pressure.

The hesisation you are refering to could be a result of too much fuel pressure, and rich condition. Simply swapping out the pump is a band-aid until you complete the fuel system with an FPR plug, and FPR, and a return style system.

I recently bough the Alter Atmosphere fuel system, and thing is the shiz-nit....amazing quality, and everything is included. Here is a picture of it.

I just havent installed it yet, becuase my turbos are in the way of the stock fuel connector. I might just wait until I pull the motor before installing it.

Smile Tech Tip from Tony

Yes get a spare - Standard Nissan Part.. But Tony ( Wld350Z )
had a Tech Tip for you.. The existing O-Ring ( Gasket ) once released will get bigger - longer - in circumfrence once removed..

But if you immediately take the O-ring from the car's fuel pump assembly and put it in the freezer... it will be re-useable..

Subject: Second item..
There is another model of Walbro pump.. a Walbro 190.. It is a drop in replacement for the stock pump and requires no dremel work. About $80 to $95 available from Performance Nissan in Duarte Calif.. Speak with Jason or Jeff...

Cheers Amy -
