FI at the Track
Hmmm....wondering what everyone's primary use of TT/SC setups of the board members are. I ask because I run my Z at the track (road course) as often as I can and am wondering if that would be practical to go TT/SC or to build the motor (heads, cams).
Of course that is a wide open question, so for a bit more focus, how about this...how does the car handle - is it noticeably heavier? is it reliable - that is, are you doing rebuilds of the engine/turbos? how is fuel consumption - considering very aggressive driving?
Let me know what you think...and thanks!

No significant decrease in fuel consumption. If you romp on it, fuel consumption willdefinately decrease. But the least mileage I have ever gotten is 18mpg. Usually, I average about 20-22mpg. 25mpg on long freeway stretches...same as stock.
In terms of suitability of F/I on the track, it will definatley put more strain on your engine. Cooling becomes critical, as does insuring your bottom end can sustain boost for long periods of time without engine damage. If you frequentlyi track you car, forged internals, and upgrade radiator and oil cooler would be a must.
The car handles just like it did before. The TT kit adds maybe 75lbs to the car..but you also loose the casts, and save 50lbs right there. So the net weight increase is negligible.
Hope that helps!

gq,
Thanks for the insight. You hit my main concern of reliability...that is reliabiilty under sustained periods of boost. Hmmm...with your advice, I may just consider building the engine as I could not afford both the TT/SC and a full engine build at the same time.

For reference, I get between 8-10 mpg at the track, and I'm pretty close to stock...

Honestly, regarding the original question, if you truely wanna road race this car, F/I is probably not a good choice (unless you have an very high budget). I would spend the money on a solid N/A mods, leave the engine internals stock, and work on your suspension and chassis.
I have a G35 coupe without FI and when I drive around I get on it a lot. I don't beat on my car all the time but I would say I drive aggressively. Probably like most of the people here. I check my navi and I get 14mpg when I drive like that. I don't check all the time but when I do it's usually around that number. So how do you have a TT and you're getting 18mpg? Do you have a navi telling you this or are you just filling it up and doing the math yourself?
