Default R4 Software Help needed...

I just ordered Split Second's R4 software today. I want to lean things up a little more as I am currently running mid to low 10's A/F over 4 psi boost. In some spots over 7 psi I've seen 9.9 A/F.

I've read a bunch of threads regarding the R4 tuning so I feel I have a good base of knowledge to start with, but I did have a couple questions.
1. Once you establish connection with the SS box, can you immediatley save the current settings as a baseline?
2. Can anyone out there experienced with R4 tuning email me their Fuel and timing maps? I am looking to for low to mid 11:1 A/f after 4 psi.

If anyone out there can please help I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Steve

You really need to find someone that has experience with the R4 and start with your own base map. I tried a couple of maps that were emailed to me and the a/f went way lean on me.

My tuner has a ton of experience and it took him about 2.5 hours to get me in the 11's across the board.

I got files out the ying yang if you want them, but I don't recommend it.

Thanks... I had my car tuned at a Altered Atmosphere already and had their F/I ecu reflash. They could have done more tuning, but I was there all day and di like 30 pulls just to get where I was at. I also don't feel like driving 50 miles and paying $$ to lean things up a bit.
I would like to learn the R4 and become comfortable with it before I do any actual uploading to my car. My email is sbicklin@aerotek.com if you could email me.
Thanks for your help and advice.

Steve

I agree - be careful what you change. You can view my maps if you like online. They are linked on my web page.

Freezeg35...dont try to run that less of timing retard . I tried and broke a piston . All of Grubbs Infinity's that John tunes , have less timing pulled than shoulds be . Im not sure how he is doing it . I believe he is using a knock sensor when he tunes . Be careful

I agree be careful, apparently they tune freak cars that seem to work. I have 8k+miles on my car without a problem.

Perhaps I should refrain from posting about timing issue..

Thanks DFW350z... I guess my whole point is to be careful. I only wanted to touch the fuel maps and nothing else.
Does anyone know if I can download my base map I currently have on the car with out affecting the settings? I want to look at it, make sense of it, and then slowly try to lean things up a little.
I really appreciate everyone's cautious advice, but I've been tuning cars for a long time and have already made every dumb mistake in the book. I don't plan to do that with my Z.
I need everyone's help so I can get familiar with how R4 works and the processes before I make any changes to my current maps.

Thanks Everyone!

You should be able to create a new customer, title it base or backup or whatever you want, hit connect to ECU, open the maps page, download from car...

Thanks enthuzed! One last question for anyone that can answer... The numbers in the fuel map matrix represtent the amount of fuel added to each rpm/boost point correct? I read that the higher the # the more fuel at those points the lower the # the less fuel... Is that correct?
So my plan is to slowly lower the numbers from my base fuel map, save each new map as a different name and hopefully things will lean out to the mid 11's. Correct???

Yes that will work .Also make sure to check your system settings and output settings are right before you write to ECU .

r4 is very easy. Just get a datalogging AF gauge and you can tune by doing 2nd gear pulls on any street by your house. That's what I did.

I also used booger's charts as a guide. Although, when I looked at booger's timing map I thought. "That's not much timing retard" so I left it alone. (Not that I'm a tuning expert or anything) I'm glad that I left it alone now.

Booger, can't wait to see how your engine build ends up.
