Default header problem-car dies after startup

ok so i got my headers installed...car started up fine when it was cold but my car felt a lot slower than before. I was driving up a hill going kinda fast and the car dies when i throw it in neutral so i quickly started it back up. I get to my house, shut it off and fire it back up. It started up fine but once the needle went to 1.5k it dropped down to 0 and died. I don't know what's going on here. Maybe the ecu needs to adjust or maybe there's a more serious problem? Any suggestions?

OK, I' ll state the obvious. Whomever installed the headers did not put everything back together correctly. I would suggest you make certain:

1) The MAF is not in backwards. (I doubt that)
2) The O2 Sensors are OK. They may have dropped them.

Did your CEL come on? They may have damaged your o2 during installation.

nope the CEL light didn't come on...the car just dies and all the lights come on the dash. I'm scared to throw it in neutral at this point though...car is still acting up today.

Give the company that did the install a call and tell them about your problem.....a lot of times, the owners may not even know that their installers f...ed up.

well the guy told me to wait til monday and call him first thing in the morning if the problem still remains...I don't really want to give Street Image a bad name because Eric seems pretty cool and he said he'd take care of it. Just wondering if you guys knew what the problem would be. My car sounds like raspy now... like when I installed the cats and the Y-pipe was missing a bolt. Wonder if it's with all the headers?

Well things happen, so hopefully this works out for you.......but it does sound like the o2 is damaged or not on tight.

Raspy sound is probably an exhaust leak, but it shouldn't cause this kind of problem. What kinda headers are they?

Ya, it actually sounds like when i had an exhaust leak after the y-pipe. I could hear air coming out somewhere. The headers are the Top Speed Pro-1 headers. And Eric at Street Image convinced me to buy stock header gaskets instead of the ones they gave me.

You know what brother.....I hope this Eric dude fixes everything! I can not believe he let this car leave his shop......You mean to tell me that it only happened when you took delivery of your ride. I honestly believe that the o2 sensors are what is too blame, but still am taken back that he didn't notice this when he test drove your car after the install to make curtain everything checked out...This is not a dig at Street Image or Eric just a simple...WTF.

I'm probably gonna take it to Street Image tomorrow...so I should tell them to check and make sure the 02 sensors are on tight?

BLKturbo91:
I'm sure Eric drove the car out after the install, took it for a few spins and brought the car back. He does this with every car that's worked on.

Ant830:
Eric's cool as hell, very knowledgable and a pro at what he does. Just take it back today, he should be able to fix the problem.

Tell us how it goes after. Good luck bro.

JKDman, Is right.

- Everytime we do an install Eric takes the car for a drive to see if the car is good to go. If he does hear or feel that the car is not acting right he brings the car back to our shop and correct the problem. We also understand your concerns with your problem. When you called the shop right after the engine stalled Eric asked you to come back the shop immediately and went with you for a test drive to see if the car would stall again as it did with you. It didn't. The only problem your car still had when it left is it would stall on start up if you didn't blip the throttle. Since the car had the power disconnected for sometime, Eric wanted you to drive it over the weekend to give it a chance to go through its learning process again. He also let you know if it didn't go away, he wanted you to bring it in first thing monday morning so he could go through everything again. Don't worry, we will not leave you hanging.

PS - The MAF sensor is installed correctly and both O2 sensors are not damaged. There might be a chance the the hotwire has some build up on it.

Why do you have to blip the throttle? So what is the verdict?

Double cross those fingers!!!!!

Eric said kuz of the mods I have to raise the idle. He said he was gonna use somethin Nissan/Infiniti uses to raise the idle...He said the raspy sound is just from the headers :-\. All in all, it's the worst $615 I've ever spent in my life. For 1, the headers don't seem to make any difference in power and for 2, my car now sounds like ****. Oh well...lesson learned.

The "thing" Eric is talking about that raises the idle is soo tight i believe its called somthing like a OBDII (dont quote me on that but that is a tool that infiniti and nissan use on even stock cars. I for one noticed my rpms a little low some times as well and didnt have any mods on.

I obviously do no know your willingness to mod or your financial status but if you really want to make use of those headers and even fix that idle proplem i suggest you get your car tuned and chipped over at Technosquare

Technosquare has a few diffrent set ups that you can choose.
You can check it all out even the pricing here
http://www.technosquareinc.com/g35.htm

If you have any questions just post it back here. But going to technosquare will definitly help bring your headers and this car to life.
