Default Anyone gone up against a Subaru STI?

With 300hp, turbo'd 4 cyl. and AWD, has anyone (stock Zs) gone up against the Subaru STI stock off the line? Do you guys think they are worthy opponents? Just curious?

Sorry guys, I was supposed to post this in the Z coupe section but I guess I could ask this same question for stock G35s.

Lol. i think the STI would win in a quarter mile but i'd guess that the g35 would be quicker through the turns. lol i dunno...

Nothing to worry about, I've raced one from a 60mph roll on the highway, probably up to 110mph, he couldn't keep up (stock STi,vs my Z w/ CAI). I've also raced one when i was stock from a roll and pulled on him.

Now if the STi was modded it would be another story, but stock they have no top-end (they lose a lot of power due to the AWD).

Hard to beat AWD off the line. Almost impossible. Comes down to driver error.

I have raced my friends 04 STI the first time we went from a 10MPH roll and i got him through 1,2,3 and he misshifted into 4th. But i was ahead all those 3 gears. The 2nd time was off the line and I dont even want to talk or think about it! and yesturday we raced from 40 and i was just like the first time except he didnt miss a gear and we shut down at 100.

I raced one from a roll and he couldn't keep up with me. 40mph roll. Fun though. When he caught up he gave me the thumbs up and a compliment. So I complimented him on the color of his car.... We both have black...hahaha

I don't think I'd try racing one in my car.

I test drove an 04 STI, and they haul some serious ***. Unlike the Lancer EVO, their engine can churn out power throughout the entire powerband. The boxer engine is definitely worthy.

I don't know what you guys are talking about...

The VIII would have a better chance on the STi than the MR because of a pretty noticeable weight difference. That 6th gear doesn't make a difference in their gearing..

STi will own the G/Z all day long.. That's if both drivers are equal

Both drivers being equal, in a drag race, from a stop (due to their AWD). But not from a roll nor top end.
My Z dynoed 235 stock (which is avg), so it's not the fastest, because my friend has a stock Z and he kicks my @ss (and that's me w/ the CAI). But i can still beat an STi.

I've never driven a Lancer.... but here are some facts and info about how the 2 cars match up on paper:

With 2 stock cars and in a straight line race of a 2005 EVO vs a 2005 STI.....

The STI has slightly more power(300 HP and TQ, vs the 275/280-ish HP/TQ of the EVO), and a 6 speed transmission(vs the 5-speed EVO tranny, except for the MR EVO which is also a 6-speed)..... but it has slightly narrower tires(225 for the STI vs 235 for an EVO) and is a bit heavier than the EVO(almost 3300 lb's, although the MR EVO is almost the exact same weight as an STI). The EVO has a higher redline(by about 1000 RPM's), and they say that the EVO has great power up in the high RPM's but less thump in the low RPM's, due to the significantly smaller engine displacement and the nature of their turbos.

If it comes to the twisties and autocrossing, the EVO is a phenominal car. The STI(although it still handles great) tends to have a lot more body roll than the EVO and is a bit sloppier in the cornering from all accounts that I've heard. I'm not sure as to which car has a more efficient powertrain in terms of parasitic loss, but this info would be very helpful to find.... if anyone knows it.

On a whim, if I had to pick one of these 2 cars for a head-to-head straight line race on pavement against eachother, I'd probably take the STI.... but for cornering and autocross, I would be cruising with the EVO.

i have raced my boys stock STI, im a better driver and i took off from the line up until 2nd gear, after that he just went by, beat me by 2 cars. On the highway i was up ahead and he was on my *** the whole time. Now he has a intercooler, full cat back, headers, intake, and he just spanks me both ways.

The evo MR is is same as evo VIII in 0-60 but the MR does have a better tracked 1/4 mile by .1 seconds. The MR not only has 6 speed but also different shocks, and lighter wheels. However the MR is priced 4.5K more than the VIII. The overall best out of the evo's performance wise are the evo rs. It is not only the fastest evo but also the cheapest. With a 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and a quarter mile in 13.1. This evo is at 29grand, why you might ask? They took out all the stuff in the car that adds unnecceasry weight. This includes power windows etc etc. It weighs significantly lighter and performs a lot better.
