Today I was hangin out at my friend's race shop, Dynamic Racing, and they got a call from their friends. Apparently some guy was getting new rims and tires on his G35 coupe and while they were 'test driving' it to make sure they were installed correctly, he hydroplaned (and yes it was raining), flipped off the side of 9A around the exit, hit a tree and hit it so hard that the car literally went airborn, skipped about 10 feet (you can actually see the clean grass of where it went over from where it hit the first tree and landed), and landed into another tree. Poor trees... they were just planted, too... Anyways. Yeah, I wasn't give the full story from the witnesses. Well the guy from the place he had the tires done was ok (until he finds out he just lost his job probably...), and the guy with the G35 we have no clue yet how upset he must've been. Well I just thought I'd tell this story because if ALL the people at the shop test em like that, then I wouldn't even bother dealing business with them. The goodyear down my street just goes down a road they have for themselves and does a u-turn and comes back. But as witnesses say "he was going probably at least 100 mph", I don't think it was necessary to test that high especially in a customer's car.

This was all done at a place called TK Performance I believe. It was one of the shops in the area that sells wheels and tires. They're cool and everything and have great prices, but man... I know people from TK and I wouldn't want them driving my car around like that if it was raining. If it wasn't raining then that would be a different story cause I'd feel a bit safer. Just be careful who you take your car to because I'd hate for it to happen to any other fellow 350s or G35s.

Incase people didn't know, tires are slick for about the first 100 miles when they're new....

so... its kind of a lesson, don't try to take turns hard etc when you got new tires, break-in period is about 100 miles.

The rain + the slickness of new tires = instant ****. I wouldn't want to put rims on in the rain though, new ones?

Anyhow, hope his insurance takes care of him.

Exactly. So true.... there is no reason to "Test drive" new tires near their limits.... any reputable tire shop should know that.

just do a nice burnout and break them in. i dont tihnk there is much of a reason to test drive just for putting wheels on. my shop NEVER does test drive unless its brakes/alignment or any other service. i think he just wanted a ride in a G

Just found out it was an 05 and by the way it was silver if I didn't mention it before. Needless to say, I believe the guy lost his job, etc. etc. Don't know about the customer's side of the story though. *shrug* I know I'm not gonna be taking my car there anymore even if I knew them. My friend was actually about to bring his friends down there to get 5 new sets of tires from them for all of their rides (team planned to get new rims and tires on their cars on the same day *shrug*). They get there and the customer's screaming or whatever so they walk out and went right down the road to discount tire co.

The dude that was 'test driving' the vehicle was actually alright too. He's supposedly a heavy guy (havn't seen him personally) but he hit the tree so hard, the seat ripped off the brackets or whatever. *shrug*

wow, thats crazy. What a fool. Why do you need to test drive a car thats getting new rims and tires. Just torque the lug nuts properly and check the tire pressure. I really dont know why you need to test drive it.
