Default Question for the G35 6sp owners

Did a search, couldnt find any info. But I remember looking at the Inifinite site, where you can build/price your G35, and I believe I remember it saying that the G35 6sp comes with a dual disc clutch? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I was wondering today after talking to some friends. I went back to the Inifinte page, and found nothing. Curious if any of you G35 owners know for sure. Thanks for the info!

i could have sworn it was a dual-mass flywheel rather than a dual-disc clutch... i have a 05 6mt sedan...

its a dual mass flywheel, the clutch disc is just a regular disc. All G/Z have the dual mass flywheel to absorb sound compared to a single mass flywheel

If you want chatter, buy a tilton or ATS.

dual mass flywheel (just really frickin' heavy). I ditched the tilton, and back to JWT/Nismo setup.

How's the overall responsiveness of the JWT flywheel vs. stock? How much noisier also? Thanks.

Yes it is a chatterbox, but that's not something that bothers me a "lot"....the tilton, that's just insane amount of chatter though.

Dual-mass clutch, single PP. Have new/old pics = >
Here ya go:
http://homepage.mac.com/stracy01/G35...oAlbum112.html

Scroll down, you can see my toasted OEM clutch (dual mass flywheel, stage 1 clutch) and the JWT replacement (Al Flywheel), 1200 kg replacement clutch. The NISMO R-Tune clutch by comparison has 1000 kg clamping force and costs considerably more. I looked at many options for a streetable solution and found JWT suited my needs well. NO regrets, it is great and with the something like 70-80% reduction in flywheel mass, the rev up/down is noticeably better. JWT also has a replaceable friction surface, that may save some headache later.

Not surprised, Infiniti dealer didn't want to know anything about other than OEM when I replaced mine. OEM is a cheap ($180 clutch, $90 PPlate), heavy POS shared part that is used in several other Nissans. I think the thing is deliberately under-spec'd to avoid transmission warranty issues, which were a big deal in 2003 for Infiniti on the G Coupes.

BTW flywheel chatter from inside the G Coupe can barely be heard on mine at stop, once moving it is not audible. Chatter is a personal preference; the sound is not loud, not "grating" outside the car even. The OEM flywheel is a PIG at ~32 lbs and even the NISMO flywheel costs way too much to cut all of ~4-6 lbs (a whopping ~15-20% reduction for over $500). The OEM dual mass flywheel just uses a lot of heavy steel crap to smooth out vibrations in the pursuit of the car you cannot tell if it is running at idle. My OEM clutch died after 31k miles, I have never been hard on clutches in a number of rides, several of them Nissans. Stop and go traffic is a killer, slipping in 1st is sure to create that nice burnt clutch smell.

BIGGEST change that I never noticed prior to the swap was how the OEM clutch ALWAYS had more "give" or slip changing gears, very noticeable now that its gone, I just get very positive engagment. Tricky for the first few hundred miles, then you get used to the more positive engagement. I don't know if this is considered Stage 1 or 2, but it is not Stage 3 and very street-use friendly. I spent $800 for flywheel and clutch; OEM from the dealer, the flywheel was $1100, clutch kit $270, labor $500.

I said, no thanks, find another way somewhere else.

I found the JWT chatter absoultely minimal compared to others I have heard. There is a little more mechanical sound (not the "chatter") transmitted by the JWT FW. Aluminum, being less dense than steel, to be expected. Very happy with the clutch with over 1000 miles on new clutch/pp/fw. The machining and workmanship is great. The OEM is embarrassing and never belonged in either G or Z - POS.

My 2004 G-Coupe is still much quieter than my 2003 350Z; inside and out that was one mechanically noisy car.

MUCH better. If I had to put a best guess number, maybe 10-15% more noise, mostly at idle. The rev up/rev/down is so much faster, and one thing I did not notice at first is starting the motor it just starts instantly vs. very fast. I love it, chatter is a personal thing and if at all possible listen to one, I think it is very minimal.

If you want "Camry Quiet", get a Camry...

I'd say the JWT disc is better, even if "regular"...which one looks better made to you? Admittedly cooked, but it was really cheap manufacture stuff:
