How do you feel about the Dvd Navigation?
I got my z without it since I don't need a navigation all the time. I've since bought an aftermarket one I can switch to another vehicle if needed. I wanted the cuby personally for stuff, the center storage between the seats is prob enough but I do like the cuby up fron for easy access stuff.
A pioneer Z1 was my first Nav purchase for any vehicle. While I don't use it everyday driving to work and home it is kinda nice to watch and hear people complain about bad directions from a map website and all I need is a phone number to find 90% of my destinations. I have the XM Navtraffic service and it does keep me from running into SOME (Not all) traffic jams.
Ive had it for about 6 months now and I have used the navigation quite a bit, definitely enough to justify the purchase price. From finding specific address's to the occasional "Oh $hit, I'm running low on gas"
OEM vs. Aftermarket? Definitely Aftermarket... there's just too many features to be had in the aftermarket choices.
With my Avic Z1 I have:
1 Voice command - Excellent for making Navigation changes while driving
2 Touch screen - I Don't know if OEM's are touchscreen but an aftermarket unit in the OEM radio location allows for quick selections onscreen
3 Nav Traffic - mentioned above, actively displays the average speed of the traffic on the map, while only most metro areas; major and secondary highways are currently covered, it comes in handy when you really need it the most. The Nav Traffic Xm service is an additional $3.99 per month in addition to my xm radio subscription
4 Bluetooth - connection to my cellphone is quick and works every time (unless the bluetooth is turned off on the phone
). Driving and making calls and taking calls is a breeze and a lot safer then before. There is an additional cost of the Bluetooth adapter.
5 30 GB Hard drive (exclusive to the Z1) with a Hdd to store map data there is no need for a DVD map disk, really handy for destination changes. Also 10 GB of storage is dedicated to music you can store from music cd's (cannot store MP3 or Xm content). Having a separate library of music to choose from is a nice feature. There have been no map updates released yet for the Z1 that I know of.
6 I still have my cubby..
Without mentioning the back camera option, the cost of this Nav unit was
Avic Z1 $1689 online
Bluetooth Adapter $89.00 online
Pioneer GEX-P10XMT $159.00 online
Metra Double Din Dash Kit $20.00 (roughly)
Nissan Wire adapter $12.00 any stereo shop
Self installed

OEM option listed on nissanusa.com is $1800.00. Some people here have been quoted as much as $3000.00 from various delaers to install after the fact. IMHO there's alot of features not present in the OEM offering to even make a comparison
Hope that helps

definitely go for OEM.. in aftermarket you'll never get the
-distance to empty feature,
-MPG feature,
-trip meter,
-door/ trunk open warning,
-oil/filter change indicator etc etc etc...
the navi map itself works great too.
Bird's eye view is the best so I can see what's ahead of me..

OEM blows, no touch screen, and many more to add! Only thing it does it add value when you sell it!
