Default 2005 Infiniti G35 Auto Dyno with K&N Air Filter

Customer bought a K&N Air Filter for his car, asked us to install it, and dyno his car before and after. Before the air filter was a stock piece.

The car is a 2005 Infiniti G35 with an automatic transmission.

We strap the car down.

We baseline the car. Note, there is no tuning done. The car is dyno'd as it came off the street.

With the stock air filter, the car dyno'd 226.80rwhp and 212.56 ft/lb of torque.

Next, we installed he K&N 33-2031 air filter into the G35. Install took 2 minutes.

With the K&N Filter Installed, the G35 put down 228.65rwhp and 209.84 ft/lb of torque.

The car has about 42,000 miles on it.

i would have asked to do a couple pulls and see if there is a pattern. That little of a change could easily just be normal deviations

why dyno the car with just a panel filter??? what kind of gains were you expecting from just a panel filter?

I hope he wans't expecting much. These cars gain plenty from short ram intakes if the plenum is upgraded or a long ram if its stock.

He's running leaner - there's power to be made. The ECU will adapt in time. If fuel is added (long term trim?), he will make torque and hp.

Great sales pitch. Complete with part numbers and everything.

virtually worthless... I don't know what was more of a waste of time, me reading the thread or writing this post.

Nothing to be gained from the info provided in original post.

perhaps an overlay of the 2 curves would be nice. peaks means very little, it's the area under the curve that counts.

Those numbers are about normal for a sedan with a drop in. My 04 made 234, and has about the same mileage.

And how is this G35 sedan any different from the VQ in the Coupe of 350Z?

these dynos mean very little without an overaly and at least have them running the same range and scale on both sheets. note that the one with the K&N filter is running from 3500 and the other is running from 3000.

More difficult to analyze when the y-axis is not along the same scale.

With this problem set aside I do notice that the stock filter is doing better between 4500 and 5500 RPMs so far as the area under the curve is greater.

If you had the data in spreadsheet format perhaps I could make a layover of the data by entering it in manually.

also, how much did the old filter have on it miles wise? if it was dirty then that just tells us how much better the factory filter is than the K&N
