Both cars will have problems since they are infested with technology and usually if you can afford one, maintaining the car shouldn't be the problem.

The only thing about the 335i that I don’t like is that to eyes of the public (non-car enthusiast) it’s just another 3 series BMW that some high school teenager is probably driving but it’s still better than an Infiniti. The great thing about the 335i is the potential of its engine, with the package that Active Autowerke offers it can make great safe WHP. I’m not sure about the potential about the new VQ37 since it’s too new but I’m sure it’s going to be great but I wouldn’t want to mod it since it’s a luxury sport coupe (aka overweight wannabe Z sport car.) btw making a factory turbo car quicker and is easier than a N/A car.

Anyways…..

Infiniti = Nissan
BMW = BMW
Unfortunately the BMW name will be further tarnished if the 1 series gets released here. Every schmuck will be driving around in a BMW.

What's your point? Does this mean that Infiniti (or Lexus) cannot be up to par with BMW just because of their origin?

Both Lexus and Infiniti are up to par with BMW in my mind, although it has taken Infiniti the last few years to achieve their position.

335i FTW!

The 335 has the similar speed with an extreme comfort/ride advantage. Looking for more power in the 335i? Just drop an extra $1300 in an ECU update and u are wiping the floor with that G37, or even beating a stupid Corvette, all while riding in BMW style.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38686

Stock car put down:
287RWHP and 287RWTQ
With XEDE it put down:
348 RWHP and 373.88 RWTQ!!!

Remember this is at the WHEELS!!!

expected performance
0-60 ~4.2-4.5
1-100 ~10 sec!
1/4 mile ~12.5

There's a reason the BMW is called the Ultimate Driving Machine folks.

holy crap! those are pretty amazing gains for just an ecu upgrade. What is it doing? increasing boost psi on the factory twins?

Obviously none of you guys have owned German cars for a long time. I've been through BMW's and Audi's. I used to work for a German auto shop, and I can tell you it's not going to be cheap to maintain a BMW. German cars are notorious for reliability. Sure they're fast, but they're really expensive and a Pain to maintain.

Upgrade the ECU? Please, I don't even want to think about the potential problems that's going to result from that.

Sure, making a factory-boosted car go faster is easier, but we're talking about a German car here. Aka it's not going to be cheap to repair what you started. You better have EXTRA money lying around.

Stick with a Japanese car.

Lexus > BMW

Reliability + Stlye > Repair Money Pit + Style

Lexus FTW.
Since the OP is talking about luxury cars i.e. BMW, Infiniti...I'm assuming he has a big pocket so maintence shouldn't be a problem for him. Of course owning a luxury car is going to cost money.

and I do agree on LEXUS FTW....even though my family owns the new BMW X-5 and the new Lexus LS. The quality and treatment (quality of car/deaerlship treatment) of Lexus is far superior of BMW. If there were more options given, I'd pick the IS350 over all of the above.

BMW 128i and 135i will be here soon...

The 135 will have the twins on an inline 6 hittn 300 / 300 all for around 35K

The 128i will have the 3.0L and about 230 hp for about 25K.

BMW will tarnish their name IMO if this happens. I bought my wife a E90 330i 2 years ago before the 335i came out and she has a nice car. I still like my "G" tho and am saving my pennies for either the GT-R / R8. I am up in the air between those two for alot of reasons.

I'll bet on the BMW, but wouldn't call it a blow out win. The G37 dyno'd close to 300 at the wheels. I'm not sure what the 335 puts down, but it would definitely be a close match.
