Default 350z dream G35 reality

Some of you may remember me from a post about a year ago describing a wager with my dad that if my weight went from 213 to 160 and I maintained it for 1 year I would get a 350z. I accepted the wager January of 2006 when I went back to school during my freshman year. I began loosing the weight and by July 13, 2006 I had reached my goal of 159.8 ( my scale goes in .2 increments). I had to keep it off for 1 year without going over, like the Price is Right showcase showdown. Now my dad got nervous and worried that he would actually have to pay out on the bet. His plans of sabatoge began.

We went to Sweden on the Volvo Overseas delivery program for a V70 wagon for my mom. I came back from the vacation at 157.8. No dice dad. After that I went back to school, where I lost the weight originally. I got back in my grove and to the near anorexic 155lbs, I'm only 5'9 so I sorta backed off of working out and just kept in shape. Thanksgiving came and went, and during Christmas break I went on a cruise with another friend and his family and a ski trip to Whistler. Returning to the spring semester closer to 160 than I wanted to be. I hit the gym and got a little buffer room again. I came home in May (2 months ago) and dad while upset that he was about to lose the bet, was still stunningly proud of what I had accomplished. The month of June was the longest month in my life, and mid July we went looking at cars. The first stop was the Nissan dealer it was rainy so we didn't test drive only looked at prices to see how much it was going to cost. Touring Z's were running 30 grand invoice so we looked over at Maximas and that was not what I wanted after 18 months of waiting. FWD auto heavy 4dr was not as fun as a 6spd 2 seater that gets up and goes. Shockingly we went to the Infiniti dealer because it was on the way home as well and I said how about a G35 sedan? Many things swayed us that way, the Infiniti dealer was in the same place where we got the Volvo, it was the Lisle Auto Plaza in Chicagoland. We had great service there so we went back for more. Insurance was less on a 4dr, and 4 seats and a trunk is a lot more practical. My heart was set on manual and the only manual Infiniti was the 07 g35S. My dad says whats S mean? so I explain the features of the Sport model and all the things that you get over the base model for only $1200 more. The dealer didn't have any base so we ended up with a brand new 07 sport with Premium package, and we haven't looked back. 500 miles and counting. I just gave it its first bath and took some pictures so I thought I would share them and my story.

This is my 4th car and I'm 20 years old.
16- 1993 Mazda 626 5spd (hated manual) moms old car got an 03 saturn
17- 1999 Mazda 626 auto (wanted manual back) dads old car got an 03 jaguar
19- 2003 Saturn L200 auto (still wanted manual but not in a saturn) moms old car got a new Volvo
20- 2007 Infinit G35s 6mt (love manual) my car, both parents are jealous.

Did I need a new car? No way.
Spoiled? Probably. I did pay 4300 out of my own pocket.
Am a deserving? I'd like to think so, I'm very grateful and I worked hard.

I go to SIU Carbondale and am a junior in Aviation Management and Flight.

PS- Sorry if the story is not that cohesive, its take 2, I had written it all out and then went to take the pictures and someone closed the window, so i had to rewrite it all.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone, I'm glad my maturity and perseverance kept all the haters in their place. About the license plate, I just noticed that as I was taking the pics, and a card came in the mail saying my dealer has the plates, so I'll be getting that taken care of shortly.

Let dad drive the car to dinner tonight and I nearly crapped my pants watching the RPM's go to 4k when the light tuned green, and him asking "is this a 5 speed or 6?" I drove it afterwards and gave it the love that it needed. Thanks again, I'll still be lurking around here, I might already have my mind made up on the next car if there is a hardtop Z convert that would be damn near perfect once I get out of school.

Nate

Edit: About insurance, I'm not exactly sure about it, (Please don't hate :-)) but we recently switched to Gieco and saved about 2 grand per year on insurance. Ive never had an accident or ticket. We changed our coverage a little bit once I got the new car and it only went up $180 a year compared to the Saturn. I'd ask my dad how much it was but that might remind him that he wanted me to pay for it so I'm gonna steer clear. Laterz

Congrats on winning your challenge. You gained a nice car, a healthy lifestyle habit and learned about sacrifice, goal setting/rewards in the process.

Way to go. Enjoy the car.

Congrats and great job. 155 at 5'9!!! Thats crazy, I was 155 for a little bit and I am 5'6, lol and I thought I was still skinny! I'd rather hear these kinds of stories compared to "I wanted a 350z for my 16th birthday so i cried to mommy and daddy until they got it for me but I wrecked it trying to show off" stories. Sure, their parents worked hard to give their kids what they want, its when the kids are unappreciative and don't understand what it took to get them their that pisses me off.

Same here, I'm 6'0" and if I don't work out I drop to 150, but otherwise I try to maintain 160+

...my metabolism's just too high...

Oh well, but hey lost50foraZ, even though you have no idea who I am, I'm really really proud of you. I do have one question though (ok many questions about the same topic)...

Now that you have the G (instead of Z, but then again I thought the G sedans were lighter than the G coupes anyways?) is there any second part of the bet that says you gotta maintain your girlish figure otherwise you start paying for this and that? Along those same lines, are you gonna keep up with a healthy lifestyle? I'm sure you've already seen benefits of being in shape, but now that the 160 limit is over with, are you gonna try and beef up, stay trim... etc? I sure hope you don't see this as an excuse to let it all go again and put the weight back on... obesity has run rampant in the US
