Default G35 - Same problems as Z?

Hi, I apologize if this has been discussed before. I searched a little, but I'm at work and don't feel like getting fired.

I've been looking for a 350z for about 6 months and haven't been able to find exactly what I want. Recently, I've started to really like the G35 coupe. Today an '03 6spd with 25k miles showed up on the local classifieds for $23k but the guy sounds desperate to sell it quick (says he needs it gone ASAP). Do you think $20k would be too low for an offer? I've heard of G35's having AWD, are they all equipped with this or is there a certain model with AWD? I know the Z has tire feathering, tranny and oil consumption problems. Does the G35 suffer from the same issues?'

I'm going to check it out tonight and just need a general idea what to look out for.

Thanks a bunch!

The only G35 that came AWD was if you got the AWD Sedan. It was an option only for the sedan and not the coupe.

The G35 suffered from the oil consumption issue with the RevUp motors, just like the 350Z.

You speak of it like its crazy common. No...its a low percentage that have oil consumption, it was very rare for an 03 or an 04 to have oil consumption, they had other issues like tire feathering and window motors. I say you lowball him first, and then if he doesnt take well to it, give him what he wants.

if he wants it gone ASAP, then he might entertain the 20K offer. Make sure you carmax it to get the past history and take it to a body shop that you know to inspect for inconsipicious damages.

I'm in ATL and just flew to Houston to pick upan '03 LR Coupe 6MT with 62K for $20G. That was $3G less than anything here with any amount of miles. It does have the tire feathering.

It's all in how you choose to read it. It was a general statement. I didn't say anything along the lines of 'don't buy it or you will have oil issues' i simply stated that it was a problem for the G, just like it was for the Z.

Thanks for your help.

I drove it last night and it was awesome. Pretty much immaculate. The only thing i found to be a problem was it pulled to the right slightly while braking, which could be something simple. If i decide to go through, I will take it to a shop to look it over in case I missed something. Would you recommend the dealer for that?

Do the G's come with the tire monitoring system? How about the digital speedometer? I don't remember seeing them and forgot to ask.

1 more thing - can you buy an extended warranty after it expires? (Really don't think so, but thought I'd ask)

Very good idea to have it inspected by a good shop first; the dealer would be a good idea since they may be able to find out what TSB's or warranty has been performed. May as well start developing a rapport and ask the people who know what to look at. For sure brakes especially with the pulling, clutch, transmission. The '03 has Brembos which will be more expensive to service/replace and you'll need to go aftermarket to get reasonable part costs vs. OE dealer.

Yes it has a tire pressure system. IIRC, pressure below 32 psi will give you a dash and an audible alarm.

No digital speedometer however.

Your car may have some remaining drive train warranty (6 years and I think 70K miles- it's 110km here in Canada); and possibly even some full warranty remaining (4year 60K) You might want to investigate those.

Some tire feathering is likely. Oil consumption should be a non issue in an '04 since it isn't a rev up.

hey guys sorry to jump in here since i'm a newbie on the my350z site, i usually stay on G35driver, but just to shed some little insight here as well
i have an 05 6mt - and some of the more common problems for the 05+ would usually be the oil consumption probably mainly on the 6mt models because of the rev-UP - other problems were ticking sounds when shifting from reverse or to first, forgot why this became an issue but dealer did take care of this problem- the only problem that the 03-04 MIGHT come across would be the indash 6disc CD changer- alot of the 03-04 and some 05's (mine included) had the CD changer crap out, mine is still under warranty so i was able to get a new one but the 03-04 guys were S.O.L / and someone did mention the motors for the windows as well
and if you can check, the leather seats on the driver side started to come unhinged as well-
