my my suggestion is drive the G37 around first then drive the G35 after using same driving and same route. make sure you vary your driving, and throttle..(i doubt the salesman will let you go WOT...but i got to go at least 3/4), accelerate through corners, etc. everything apples to apples.

that's what i did with the 335i, G37, and my previous 03' 350z.
I already test drove it Its on page 2 or 3 i think. But I did go all out, because he did too, well, i dont think he redlined it though, but i made sure of it! I feel bad though...I know it was not broken in

I agree with your bench racing comment. That's why I stated it's a drivers race, at least on paper.
And you were wrong.

1) On my registration, my 06 weighs 3254lbs.
2) On my title, my 06 weighs 3254lbs.
3) On a scale, the car weighed in at 3244lbs, with a nearly full tank.

And Gooey, who has an 07-Z got identical results as I did. Motor Trend weighed their G37 in at 3770 two issues ago, but they had the RAS, I believe. So, subtract 75-100lbs.

Any questions?

CVT: Look on your registration or title, and see if it lists the car's weight. Or if you can have the car weighed at a local track or truck stop.

I was correct with my subtraction guess. So a ~400lb difference.

I'm also assuming you don't have the RAS (rear active steer)?

The G37 is a whale which is why the times on the car are identical to the current g35 despite the power increase.....Cmon guys it weighs 3900lbs!!! thats as much as an BMW M6. The car is a PIG..... just check any of the magazine for the times they got. In the Motor Trend test the the BMW 335ci walked the G37. Im sorry, but im happy with my car rather than that rebadged/repriced Altima coupe that thinks its a Lexus.

I have seen many sources saying that my 06 touring coupe weighs in at 3370 (thats with full fluids), but if you actually weighed it on a scale, Ill go with that. How full were you on gas?? 20gal is approximately 168 pounds!! give or take a few.

Does your state registration list the weight of your car? Mine does. It also says it on the title.

Well actually - no. I stated my sources which I accurately posted here. At the same time I asked the question where other people got theirs. Thanks for explaining that.

3339 is the Nissan "official" posted weight just as the 3682 pounds is for the G37. It would be interesting to find out why the Z is much lighter than the claims by the manufacturer and the G37 appears to be accurate.

I had a silver 1 try to run me down the other day after work. He caught up to me at my exit and I was ready to go home... without a ticket. My guess is that a modded Z would be about even. Cars will keep advancing but it won't stop me from enjoying my 06 technology.

My 07 Touring Z with my aftermarket deck, amplifiers (two), XM receiver weighs in at 3300-3350. Put in my two kicker 10's in the Z box and it's at 3400. With my fat *** in it it's 3600. Mind you my touring has side and curtain airbags as well. With the stock system in the car it weighed in at 3250-3300 and roughly 3500 with me in it. I have no problem believing enthusiast and base models weighing in at 3200, especially if they're missing extra junk like side airbags.

I've always wondered how the 06 and up models have weighed like 200 pounds more than the older ones?? Where the hell do these numbers come from?? it makes no sense. All the car websites like cars.com, etc confirm this. But I will go with what you guys said, that my 06 with full fluids weighs in at ~3250.

Also, is the gearing any different between the cars?

And, let's not forget the Z has the lighter driveshaft and might get the power down more efficiently, etc.. There is at least one dyno on this board where an 07 Z and an 08G are within 10hp or so (same dyno, but different days).

It sure would be interesting. If the OP and the salesman don't do it for some reason, we should try and get some owners to step up and see what happens.
even so...two equal cars with same power to weight...lighter car wins because it can generate more traction given same size tires

...and less weight in transitions through corners.

Bottom line to me is the G37 may be faster, etc. but the cars should not even be close (to an '04 G35 6MT). With that motor it should blow away the G35 C about every aspect, the numbers don't support that.

In person the other thing that really hurts the car is the room they took away in back with what appear to be significantly larger front seats, why even make a 2+2 anymore? I use my '04 G Coupe as a DD, p/u and drop off 11 and 14 year old, they can actually sit in the rear with decent room.

Not in the G37, no way. The back is now a pair of "insurance seats" - Nissan removed 2 or 4" which sounds like not much until you try to sit there in person. It's no longer a real 2+2, not IMHO. My older son is not too far out from driving, I can see replacing the G with a 2009 350Z; Infiniti no longer makes anything I am interested in buying, and the only Nissan of interest is the Z (other than the GT-R which isn't available yet).

That's sad, considering they used have the Z32, S13/14/15, B13 SE-R and those are just a short list of USDM cars no longer around. The new Sentra will never be worthy of an SE-R badge, the QR engine has all kinds of issues, and there's nothing to replace the 240's at all for an entry-level F/R driver.

The one thing that really sold me on the G35 was the weight penalty over my 350Z just wasn't that bad. The OEM rear springs being softer by 10-15% was noticeable, but I've taken my G Out for AutoX and it's a capable car in full stock trim (including very worn Pilot Sports). I've put a lot of miles in each model, and the old '04 G35 just doesn't disappoint me compared to my '03 350Z.

As far as Infiniti weights go, I've found "InfinitiHelp_dot_com" has consistent numbers, for 2004 they provide:

CURB WEIGHTS
Coupe 5A/T Coupe 5A/T w/Leather Coupe 6M/T
Curb weight (lbs.) 3,416 3,442 3,435
Weight distribution (% fr/rr) 53/47

For the 2008 G37, they state 3,668 lbs for a G37S 6MT, and 54/46 F/R...too heavy for me, the F/R ratio is going in the wrong direction for a RWD car. That number probably does not include all options like the RAS, it's a base number.

i had a 03' 350Z touring...the weight states it at 3250lbs. i had koni yellows and hotchkis sway bars on her. it's definately more tossable than my G37S...but the G37S grips pretty good as well. so well that i really do not miss my Z at all. as for power, the car itself is getting to 13.7s on the auto stock (refer to myg37.com)! i have no doubt that the 6MTs will get there even faster.

the G37 is an improvement over the G35 in every performance aspect. period. in handling AND power it's a significant difference. does it blow away the G35? i'd say an almost .3 difference in the quarter is significant. the differences are most apparent when you drive the cars back to back.
