Default Need Help ordering coupe! HELP!!

HELP! I've got a order to be placed on Monday for a coupe, but they won't tell me if it's going to be a 2003 or 2004 model. The dealer doesn't even know or seem to care! Seeing that the 2004's are due in Aug/Sept, wouldn't it be a 2004 since it takes 3 months to get one? HELP!!

Thanks!

I thought they quit taking orders for the current model year on a certain date. You could call another dealer to see what year they would expect a new order to be (without telling them you've already ordered from someone else).

I'm just curious how you worked the order. Did you just put down a deposit and agree on a certain price with respect to MSRP? Such as, $500 under MSRP? This would make a big difference. You could maybe get a 2003 model late in the year for, say, $1,500 under MSRP, but they wouldn't do that for a 2004 model! I hope you didn't agree to MSRP for a '03 model!

Take a look at the write-up in the latest issue of Autoweek (June 2) It says it's a 2004 model..

WayneT,

Called every dealer in the Charlotte area today, could not get an answer. DOES ANYONE KNOW??

As for the car, I sent a check for $500 to Carmax of Greenville SC as a deposit a week ago. They are going to place the order on Monday. The price I was given is around $2K under MSRP.

I'm lost. The June 2nd Autoweek didn't mention the coupe as a 2004!

If I was to place an order on Monday, what year would I get?

Thanks!!

Sprint302, Take another look at the Autoweek article.. On the first page, to the left of the photo it clearly says it's a 2004 model. If you order one now, it will be a 2004 model as you most likely won't see the car till Sept 2003 which is the month they start delivery of 2004 models.

The CarMax web page at THIS LINK has new 2003 Z's at their Greenville, SC, location. You must have picked the "New Car Special Order" option at the bottom (or just contacted them in some other way to order a new Z).

If you're getting one $2k under MSRP, I'd say it is a 2003 just based on historical sales listed on this forum, and it would still be a pretty good price. If it's a 2004, that would be a great deal.

Sprint302 are you referring to a Z or a G35 ?

I belive you are referring to a Z, from your posts, but this got moved to the G35 Coupe forum because you meantion coupe

You may want to clarify this so it stays or goes in the approrite forum.

I'm also getting a 2004 Z. Just shopping on price right now....

beginning of June (nowish) is what I have heard is the cutoff for 2003...however i doubt they would give you 2k off msrp for a 2004...so I would think you would be getting a 2003, but I am not sure.

Is my dealer even going to be able to find out what year they are ordering? The order has not been placed as of yet, and they have been playing with the pricing a bit...

Here's how the deal went. I called Carmax and spoke with a new car salesman. He told me they could order a 350Z and have it in 90 - 120 days. The price (May 15th) he gave me was about $750 under MSRP. He told me to send a check for $500 to them and they will place the order on June 2nd. Friday, I called and the salesman was off for the day, so I spoke with the new car sales manager. He told me that they are discounting at least $2K on all models (2003). I asked him if for my new price and what year the car will be. He said he'd get back to me.... So, I'm waiting.

Here's the question?? If they knock $2000 off (27,500 - $28000) and order me a 2003 (enthusiast, 6mt), will it be worth it? They did say that they will be discounting the 2004's around $750 under MSRP. Which should I buy? We are talking about $1000 - $1500 for one model year.

$27,500 - 27,999 - 2003
$28,500 - 28,999 - 2004

If I do go for a 2004, can they still order it tomorrow and have it in September 2003?

Thanks!

If you don't have an order in for an 03' now, then you can't order one unless you get an 04'. The dealers already have allocation for the rest of the 03's. Many of these are still available for purchase, but you will have to get one as it was already ordered. All the regular allocations will be Premium Package cars. Some will be with and without Nav. As long as you don't want anything unique, you should find it off an allocation. I wanted DG wtih Willow interior and all the DG allocations from the 3 local dealers were with Graphite and hence I ordered. I wish you luck on trying to deal down on a Coupe off the allocation. Here, a coupe that isn't pre-sold only stays on the lot a maximum of 5 days. I've gone twice to dealers who had no cars at all. No dealers here are dealing except in throwing in things like sealant, tinting and interior accessories. One of them I went to a couple weeks later and they got 7 on Tuesday. They were delivering the last 2 of those 7 to their owners that Saturday, the day I ordered mine.
