but the most common factor on the G37 is the steel reinforced doors, the structural welds they put all over the car, and the 4WAS

 

I was looking at one at the dealership in Thousand Oaks and was considering it for my next car. Glad to hear Motorweek is unreliable and its back on my list.

 

Looks like that list of times on the net isn't so far fetched compared to the list on here, maybe conservative actually, are you saying you drive a slow 2004 or just can't drive LOL?

Has anybody heard of a typo, even top Magazines make that mistake sometimes. But some magazine do try to discredit as in multi-sport car review using the Touring instead of the lighter Enthuaist or Track, these verison perform a little better bc they are lighter and setup to perform.

 

My 05' could have made the list but I have suspension mods and 275/255 street tires. ( not "stock down to the tire)

But with no HP mods, 13.997 in the SW Florida summer heat wasn't bad.

 

interesting that the fastest 03's in there are the Touring. I noticed that the fastest car mag Z time was also a touring model (up until the revUp motor). I have a touring, but was reluctent because of the added wt (I'd love to shave a couple hundred pounds on this car).

The problem with the 37 is it is soooo freakin heavy. I do NOT understand why they make the 35 sedan faster. The engine engineers keep squeezing more and more power out of it, and the other guys just keep adding crap to it. I don't like the ttrend (same with the M3 and other cars).

 

You can also check out Dragtimes.com. It lists times for practically every vehicle on the road, including three for the G37.

Also keep in mind magazines like Car & Driver like to drop the clutch at redline for max performance. Most people think their cars are faster than they're willing to drive them. For instance: A new WRX is 5.6 to 60 according to Car & Driver but that's with a redline clutch drop. The "street start" is 6.5 seconds. That's a little more real world.

 

Dropping the clutch at redline in a stock Z, as with many other 2WD cars on stock tires, will not give you maximum performance.

Plus magazine testers have a very limited time to test the car vs owners who drive the car daily, track it multiple times and know the car much better. This is why the best times posted on the forums tend to be better than the best times in magazines.

 

Edmunds got 5.5 0-60 on an auto G37 by just slamming the gas pedal. Additionally, 0-60 times can be all over the place. You can't put much stock in just one result (i.e. Motor Week). Unless you have two cars running side by side with a cloned driver you don't really have a 100% accurate comparison between two cars. You have to look at overall results to make any determination.
