Default Thinking about getting a g37...

Here's my story... I currently own a 06 z auto w/ 25k miles on it. I owe 24k still which is about trade-in blue book (nada). It's in good to excellent shape (8 on a 10 scale imo). Why I owe so much you ask, I was upside down on a trade in that was in the shop more then in my drive-way and I needed to lose it quick after a used motor was put in!

Or should I hang-on to the z, pay it off/down and get the car I really want down the road which is a GT-R, which will most likely be used unless the price can come down to 50k or less.

Also, will the Nizmo exhaust bolt on to a G37?

unless you get a great deal on the G37 AND put money down to nullify being unside-down then don't do it.

I went from an auto 2003 Z (new) to a 2003 6MT G35 (used). It's a trade off. The Z felt faster, handled better and looked better (IMO) the G had a better interior, back seats, sunroof... more creature comforts.

You need an extension for the exhaust at least for the 2003's. Vendors sell them.

Thanks for the comments. However I don't think I will be upside down, the deal will not be done if that is the case!

As for as power differences I am under the impression the g37 has more HP/TQ. Please correct me if I am wrong as I do not want to go down in power.

Another question: what blue book trade-in value numbers do most infinity deals use? nada, kelly, edmunds? They're all different and if I can get them give me what I owe I think I am going to make the move to the g37.

Now dealerships are far and few between. There is one here in Virginia beach the next closest one is in Richmond, 90 miles away. The one here is closed on Sundays which sucks!

So far I am looking at getting a black auto journey w/ the prem & sport package.

Any things to watch out for?

The weight is also higher on the G compared to the Z.

That might be offset with the increased displacement

I only have direct experience with the 2003 G35 coupe vs the 2003 350Z so I might be off.

everyone I know who's driven the G37 says the acceleration is almost identical to the V36 sedan with the HR.

The weight on the G37 really killed the extra 24hp. I test drove a G37 when I took my G in for an oil change and I wasn't

too impressed. Faster than previous gen G's but not by a mile.

if you're looking for performance than stick with the Z. The G37 is fast but it won't blow your socks off compared to a 350Z...even the 07' 350Z withthe HR engines are much faster...i think on avg. about .3-.4 seconds faster in the 1/4..maybe even more.

Well, I test drove the g37 today and the difference is noticeable in corners, lots of under steer happening! I will say the sexiness of the g does make you want it though... I decided to pass for now and may revisit the idea later on.

I would say majority of dealers will give you between 80-85% of the KBB/Edmunds/NADA trade in value. I would say you are still a few thousand upside down for trade in. Private sale you might be ok. Keep in mind though you can find brand new Z's under sticker in the high 25 low 26 range.

It really is a trade off in performance for comfort.

Agreed, I need to pay the z down more before I move on.

Another thing that has held me back is the fact that the z hasn't given me any problems at all which is a relief because even though buying a "new" car should be trouble free, it sometimes isn't and I've had my shares of them.

Stein, I like you, but why would you want to go from owing $24k to owing $44k (assuming you aren't putting any money down)?
