Default Skyline GTR Question!

Why is the G35 the skyline now?

why did the R30's platform stop production? (ex: R34)

Cost. Nissan doesn't get enough return on the GTR. The company needed to cut costs and increase profit margins. The G35, G35 Coupe, 350Z, Maxima, Altima, all share a significant amount of components which is much more efficient. Take the engine for example. All of the above models (in addition to the Murano and FX35) share the same VQ engine. That means the development cost for that engine is spread out over 7 models. That's dramatically less expensive than the RB26DETT engine (with twin ceramic turbos on VSPEC models) found in the GTR. Hopefully Nissan will produce a new GTR, and if we're lucky, maybe it will come to the states.

Also I think Nissan underestimated the sport car market in the US... when the skyline motor was designed it pretty much never considered being in a left hand drive car and the cost to redesign the motor to satisfy US market was prohibitive.

The new GTR won't be making that mistake again and Nissan expects to fullfill the legacy of the GTR in both the US and Japanese markets.

This info sounds like a Nissan sales pitch but it isn't. It's a summary of an article/interview I read in Evo with the lead designer of (i believe) the past 3 generations of skylines.
