interesting, I thought maybe edmunds and the car websites had the weight figures wrong on the sedan versus coupe. I guess not. So how much do the 350Zs weigh? I'm guessing considerably less, possibly sub 3400?

My '06 C6Z weighed 3115 with about 1/3 tank gas. Talk about power to weight ratio with an all aluminum 427

I have an 07 Z and my friend has an 07 G with the sport package, 19inch rims, manual, spolier, stiffer suspension, etc.

I've driven both and here are some points.

G is more expensive and nicer on the interior, although a little geared towards old people(in looks) with the analog clock and stuff, but nice nonetheless.

What got me was the G actually feels more cramped in the interior, maybe because they waste cabin area for them back seats. The Gs trunk is very small, can't put much back there so no advantage in that department. The G also seems to have less visibilty. The front window seems small and forces you into a kind of tunnel vision which annoyed me.

I personally like the looks of the Z over the G but that is just personal preference.

My Z is definelty faster and handles better but is a little more noisy in the cabin. I love the tracking feel of the Z. The G's clutch is much lighter and smoother with a shorter travel, which is actually nice but may not hold up as well when slammin through the gears, feels a bit disconnected from the tranny.

The G with the sport package is actually quite stiff. The ride feels a little rougher with the 19s and stiffer suspension. The Z is still rough mind you but I was suprised on how rough the G was.

The paint is better quality on the G. I have 3 large rock chips, two on the roof of my Z, don't even know how that happened. only has 6K miles and a year old. This is the biggest gripe I have with the Z. Infinity service dept and customer care is miles above Nissan. Anytime my buddy takes his G in they give him another G to use, even for oil changes.

Bottom line, the only person that can answer that question is you. For me the Z was a better choice because I wanted a sports car for a decent price. I looked for over a year and the 07HR was the best bang for the buck.

Here's a couple pics of our rides.

I own a G...and if I had to do it over again...I would buy a G again. Lots of cabin space. I love that you can get very wide wheel and tires on it. Love the fact that people could never thing that a G could be this fast. They thing its "all show and no go" until I leave them by 3 states .

My Infiniti dealer is the best......I allowed them to display my car for a week in their showroom (after Forged Performance was finished with it)....now no charge for oil change and I never have to make an appointment.

The G has a style that looks like it would never fade. Mine was trouble free before I went FI and now its trouble free after FI.

I love the fact that the VQ platform has such a LARGE following and support....almost up there with the Porsches.

Yes, I have turned mine into an "Animal" when its under boost....but off boost.....its a smooooooooooooth driving Infiniti

The charcoal interior looks so damn sexy, chicks see my car and say they love it, then get in and look around, and tell me its sexy! Also the oil consumption isn't bad at all.

just thought I'd throw in my two cents about the handling... I got some S-techs for the Z (on my G) and I have to say that the ride got a bit stiffer and the handling is outstanding. I would think a 350Z would feel the exact same way if it had a passenger in it, no? Oh and I also got some 11" rears along with the stiffer springs so maybe that's why the handling improved so much.

G35Coupe 6spd are really tough to find here used (DFW, TX). I tried to look for one, but they are really rare it seems. I ended up with the Z because the G35C cost more for double the miles. I love the G35C interior so much better though, looks a lot more fancy. 350z exterior g35 interior = game over for me. I still love how the 350z sits you low profile and cupped in the seats.

where i live, there's a 5 G's to 1 Z. More people get G's than Z's due to the backseats, and luxury.

I personally like the Z better

It's pretty even here in So Cal.

Though I do see more Z's on the weekends while I see more G's during the weekday commute.

when I started looking I test drove an 05 350z and an 06 G35 back to back.
I am a little bias but speed wise I couldnt tell all the much of a difference between the two, that being said I absolutely agree that the suspension is much better in the 350z.
But suspension can be fixed, having back seats and an actual trunk cant,... just something to think about.

it comes down to personal preference. my gf drives the G and i drive the Z. to me the Z is funner to drive and its my comfort zone. the g is a little more elegant but it still has a power but the Z is just more of a sports car.

As wacked as that sounds I agree. I love the Z's front end but I wish the rear has more of a "oooh" effect. I had a work hard on the rear to make it sexy lol.

Definitely get an 06 or better though!!! I got an 03 and it took a while to get 06 led tailights and bi-zenon headlights

Oh on another note...most Honda/Subaru/Mitsubishi guys would prefer a G35 over a 350z. They say it's more luxurious blah blah blah...I really think they see the Z as more of a direct competition. No backseats, Stiffer suspension, a more "raw" image - it's a competitive car in the tuning world to be sure.

I've test driven two 06's and they were very nice and fun to drive, have not driven a Z yet though so i can't make that comparison for you
Neither my 2003 Z or 2004 G Coupe ever experienced oil issues, and the post base VQ35DE motor isn't any different after 2005 between the Z33 and V35, both received the 298 hp motor with 7k redline, added variable timing exhaust side.

I like the G's '05-> interior, but I don't find it "much nicer" than the '04 interior. The major faux pas in the interior are still there, such as no center tach (like a Z, I miss that, the instruments are better), position of the seat switches (fine if you have a narrow butt), and a few other things I'd change with a clean-sheet design. But in either case the back seats are very usable, and folding the seat down gives you decent room for a low-slung Coupe to carry a larger suitcase or whatever. The complete lack of storage in the 2003 Z was annoying, having the only real storage behind the pass seat. Unless you buy a Touring, the interior was pretty basic in '03-04 Z's. Personally I'm fine with basic interiors, everything else just adds weight.

Buy a 2004 G Coupe. Costs less, plenty out there with <40k miles, Brembos, interior is a matter of taste. For some reason that refined interior and who knows what else has added on average 100 lbs a year since the 2004 model, which dry weight was 3410 lbs for a 6MT, 3512 for a 2005, and the G37 continues that porking-out trend with even more heft. I won't "trade up" to a G37 just for that reason. I'd be more inclined to get a new G35S Sedan before that if I had to pick a new G.

Put on stiffer sways (added along with ~25% stiffer rear springs in 2005 V35's, 427 vs. 314 lbs/in rear), get some lighter wheels (the stock 18's weigh more than the later OEM 19's). Replace the intake tube, put a hi-flo drop-in or a popcharger. Power was understated for whatever reason at 280 hp, vs. 287 for my 2003 350Z. No question power has gone up since then, but there were also some minor torque losses with the rev-up motor - IMHO only, it's a wash. If you want more power, there are plenty of ways to get it and level the playing field.

I have over 55k miles combined seat time between my 350Z & my G, both great cars for the money. My Z was an early 2003 I bought in first week of Nov 2002, Base Model with no options other than "aero". My G is optioned to death with Prem Package, NAV, aero again, but that's pretty much how most of them are sold. Buy a 6MT, I suppose that goes w/o saying, but in the 2004 MY the AT in the G35 did not get you the same options, it had a long name like "Infiniti G35 Sport Coupe 6MT Leather" or something like that.

Honest comparison, in either car you'll want to get other sways, wheels, and ideally springs/dampers to really enjoy either of the 2003-2004 models if you like to drive hard. 2004.5+ Z and 2005/2006 G's definitely had some suspension improvements (in the G if you had the 19" OEM wheels/sport package). If you did pick up a later G, budget for a brake upgrade - stopping distances are not so far apart but the 05-07 OEM brakes are no Brembos. Dropping those was a dumb move on Nissan's part.

If had room, I'd have one of each still, but I already have 5 cars...or 6? Whatever, it wasn't "practical" to keep both. There's always room for a GT-R, but that's another thread

Click on the pics for more of the same...

No kidding, so does my family. For weekend or day trips we pack light and take the G, much more fun for me

Lol, my wife sits in the back because she likes it better and sticks one of the kids in the front. She "doesn't have to look out the front window" which for some reason still freaks her out a little...+1 on the Z, scared the hell out of her.

Model certified...try this in a Z

Holy **** really, no I havnt seen that post, I need to see it.
For me I just realized that the G's suspension could be made as good if not better than the stock Z, and I like its looks more

Also when I popped the hatch of the Z I couldnt imagine fitting 2 full sets of scuba equipment in there and on the occasion thats a thing I need.
