Default This is probably blasphemy for most of you but...would this work?

So, I live in Canada in the pothole capital of the world, or at least it feels that way.

I've been considering getting a G35 coupe. As I wouldn't want an automatic, this means I'd get 19 inch rims + the sport suspension with the 6MT. This would result, for me at least, with an unacceptably harsh ride.

However, I may have stumbled across a solution. First, I could "downgrade" to 17 inch rims to get more rubber between mean the road (better ride). But, on the suspension front, could I just buy new OEM G35 *sedan* springs and shocks and install those? Would they fit? I'd still have the upgraded sway bar(s) but I don't think that would harm the ride much if any.

What do you all think? I know most people are going the "other" way and increasing their spring rates, not decreasing.

Thanks,
Ted

Hehe..I was wondering if anyone would notice that!

I initally considered a 350Z in 2002 hence the join date. I was turned off buying one back then by all the problems. Stuff like the tire feathering, transmission revisions, little things like the seat/window/paint/etc problems that owners were howling about in the 'Repairs' section.

I figure now that it's 2009 it's probably safe to buy 2007-08 G35 as a lot of bugs have probably been worked out.

to answer your question ..your better off leaving the 19's and maybe doing a stiffer suspension.......if u want you can get bigger rubber on the wheels, but stiffer suspension will help you alot with bottoming out

If anything, go for 18" wheels and look for springs that are softer than stock.

IIRC... G35 sedan springs are taller than coupe springs. I could be wrong.

Thanks! I've been searching trying to find spring rates and heights for sedan .vs. coupe and different year suspensions with no luck. The only thing I've found is a thread that lists all the aftermarket springs and their rates.

Does anybody by chance have a service manual? I'm curious what the G35 non-sport suspension (e.g. automatic) spring and dampner rates are compared to the 6spd/sport suspension.

I guess best is for me to go test drive an automatic and see if I like the ride, and if so just buy a 6spd then buy new OEM non-sport (ones avail. on the automatic) springs and struts/shocks?

With the non-sport suspension in place of the sport one on the 6mt, I'm hoping the "look" part will be OK. After all, it should sit/ride just like an automatic G35 coupe, but with a manual tranny!

Just wondering how the non-sport compares to the sport compares to the sedan. Having trouble finding numbers.

Thank you! That's exactly what I needed! I noted in the manual that there is a 3mm height difference between sport and non-sport but was having a heck of a time finding those numbers!

Looks like the rear is the only ones they played with really for spring rates. I'm wondering if the front struts are the same then as well? I'm guessing finding #'s for the struts is probably harder than the sprngs?

Thanks again,
Ted

I'm in Winnipeg,MB - no comparison to Vancouver for roads! If I was in BC I wouldn't be too worried!
