All i want to know is how the hell you polished that good with the timing cover and engine still in the car.

^ all you need is:
sandpaper
plus water in a spray bottle (for wetsanding)
plus elbow grease
plus lots of time
plus buffing wheels / dremel pads & rouge
plus mother's polish
my process was to let the engine cool down and wet sand the timing cover until I got a smooth surface. i started with 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper and worked my way up to 2000 grit over a few weekends. once you're done sanding, start polishing with either a strong drill & stiff polishing wheel or a dremel with a tapered, conical polishing tip. start with medium grade rouge, then work to finer grade rouge. you can finish up / maintain the shine by hand polishing it with a gritty rag, old sock, or t-shirt (microfiber towels are too soft) and some mother's polish. just keep polishing to you're happy with the results

I just dont like them because they offer no protection to the rim its self and because personally i think its not safe.
