Thumbs up Headlight restoration... success!!

Well, my neighbor's g/f let me do her Jeep's headlights for free since I'm just starting out and still experimenting. I tried some 600 wet/dry and it wasn't even scratching the surface (no pun intended). Knowing my arm would fall off before any progress was made, I ran to Home Depot for some coarser grit (150/220/300). I wasn't able to get all of the crazing out but the major damage was eliminated. I followed up with the 600/1500/2400/PB SSR 3/Diamondite Plastic Enhancer/Spar Urethane Mix. I had to remove the first application of the Urethane because it would not self level correctly but the second attempt came out pretty good. On the driver's headlight, I was rushed so I have some sanding marks from the first few grades of sandpaper. A little more time and I could've come out like glass. Overall, I'm very happy with the passenger light. I'm sure the neighbor and his g/f are happy compared to what they looked like before and won't mind the sanding marks. After all, it was FREE. From start the finish, it took about 3 1/2 hours. 30 mins was to Home Depot and about another 30 mins spinning my wheels with the initial 600 grit. Anyways I'll let the pics speak for themselves and any input is appreciated....

Was this all on the outside of the headlight or did you take them apart?

I'm trying to start up a mobile restoration business. The neighbor is supposed to taking my info to post around his work (Air Force Base) so I just see this as a future ROI (return on investment) to my headlight refinishing empire.

Yes, all outside. The blotchy area on the top/right of the passenger side had something spilled on it that was a pain to get off (liquid diamonds? ).

Great job. You should have done some before and after pictures showing the light intensity on a wall or something. Could be a good marketing tool.

Nice work. Not only do nasty headlight lenses look bad, but poor lighting is actually pretty dangerous as well. Should notice a huge difference at night.

I restored my headlights before I am surprised you said 600 grit is not coarse enough... I guess those headlights must be beat to hell. I went with 1000 grit wet sand paper and just kept water running as i sanded... the oxidation went away after about 15-20 mins of non stop rubbing (did this by hand).

Those headlights were a mess when you started and turned out great. I did mine on my G35 awhile back, they were not that bad to start but used Mequiars headlight restore kit. It was like waxing my lenses and only took about 5 minutes to bring them back to new. Again mine were not as bad to start but just another option to try.
