Default High Mile G oil problem

A buddy of mine purchased a 05 G35 about 2months ago. The car is nearing 70k miles.

He noticed last week the oil issue after I told him some basic info on it and to watch out for consumption.

He took it in after a few hundred miles of driving and after seeing he was drinking a quart per 1500 miles. The dealership told him that its not their problem as the warranty is up and the extended warranty company wont honor the warranty bc Infinity cant say what is causing the oil consumption.

As I have no direct experience with this issue, and search didn’t return much, can anyone chime in on how to go about getting this fixed/taken care of?

Being as it’s a known problem, I think there must be a way to get them to honor the warranty.

Mike

i'm not sure about this problem either but i do know that the extended warranty doesn't cover a lot of things that they should..have him contact the company that's doing his extended warranty first to see if that's even cover anywhere...

It just seems they are all trying to avoid having to pay for anything. But regradless of the warranty, I have heard of people, somehow, getting Infinity/Nissan to cover the cost being as its such a known and wide spread problem.

OK since it is out of warranty this worked for me....add one qt of Rislone, drive for 500 miles, drain everything...install 15W40 Shell dino.....what happens often is that the compression rings will get so much baked carbon on them that they no longer maintain their correct contact with piston bore (the top ring will stick in the ring lands)...the Rislone, hopefully will remove enough carbon to allow the rings to do their job.

before doing this i would do a compression test to see if the compression rings are the problem

There's a lot of discussion on this over on the G35driver.com site. The only for sure thing is to regularly check your oil level, like every time you fill up. Dealers and aftermarket warranties are very shy about this issue.
