Boosted G problems....I think
I own a 2003 AUTOMATIC G35. This is my second vortech supercharge I've had on the car and I am experiencing the same problem. I know I am not the only person who has supercharged their automatic g or z and I was wondering if you have had these problem.
1st kit Vortech V-3 660's injectors and running Uprev ems system car made 340whp. Well after a month or so transmission began to split, but only in 5th gear. The car accelerated flawlessly and drove great. The car was still under warrenty so I contacted jared at uprev and told him what was going on and he said that he needed to make some adjustments to the ecu to compensate for the extra power and torque the sc makes. Never did it. I took the sc kit off the car and set the ecu back to jared and had him reflash the ecu back to stock and took the car to the dealership. It was their for a week and they could not find a thing wrong with the car. Got the car back and didn't drive it much due to how slow it was. Well maybe a month later the car would not start. Towed it to the dealership and they said the ecu was bad. I took the ecu out sent it to uprev and they said the ecu was good
Well I took it back to the dealership and they said it was bad. Since the car was under warrenty they replace it for FREE
but there went my UPREV software
I sold everything.
Well a few months past and I decided to boost the car again. I don't remember if the tranny was shifting bad or not, nevertheless, I did it. But instead of going with uprev I went with V-2(self-contained oiling system), UTEC, 440's and a different tuner car still made 340whp. This time it only took a week for the tranny to start slipping just as before. I'm like what the F&^K! Well I took the car to my friends transmission shop and he said these cars transmissions are strong as hell but the valve bodies suck..he had 2 maxiums on the lift getting theirs swaped out. Even through they are frt wheel drive, they run the same motors (3.5) so the concepts and parts Im sure are from the same manufactor.
I also contacted Jared from UPREV and he was steamed he told me that those shops will tell you anything to get your money..true and he knows nissans...true. He also told me UTEC has no software that controls the transmission merely fuel and air control. He also told me the gears are not your problem because if they were the car would not move at all...true. He then told me to sell my utec and injectors and but some 660's and UPREV software and let him check it out...5 hours away and $1500.00-$600 (selling my utec and injectors)=$900.00
BUT if it comes out my tranny is bad $1500.00 labor and rebuild...so $2400.00 worst case scenerio.
My plan was to take the sc off my car. Drive it for a week or so.
A: if it drives like a champ and shift flawlessly then the sc is F%^king with the tranny's ecu and causing it to run bad. Then I am deffiently going to go with uprev and purchase the 660's and UPREV the car AGAIN.
B: If I take the kit off the car and it still drive bad then that means the valve bodies are the problem and not the car transmission computer and I am going to do a stillen valve body upgrade. Drive the car for a week and reinstall my sc and roll out. $700.00
C: Sell the kit again and just drive the car N/A...this is the plan now for a month...so if you are looking for a full kit...injectors, utec, plugs, & gauges..$4500.00 then hit me up but only for sale for a month or if you want utec and injectors give me a holla...macspeed704@hotmail.com

I really leaning forward that direction. I just going to remove th sc and see how it drives, then I m going to upgrade the tranny in a few months after everything checks out, because Uprev dynoed it twice and the problem still occured thats is why I went with UTEC this time and the problem still occured. So I think the upgrade is a must but I just want to hear from some other automatic forced induction VQ's out there. Thanks for the feedback.
Ok I just took off the sc cog belt, replace the injectors and spark plugs with the oems, and removed the utec. I test drove the car. And it still slips a little everyonce in a while. So my tranny guy was correct and I'am going to do the vb upgrade, but my only concern is what if my vb is damaged beyond repair and they do a vb upgrade on a damage vb? There are several shops that perform this upgrade which range from 700-900.00, but most are Stillen vb upgrade kits. And I have seen the kit for sale for 285.00 and I could take it to my tranny guy and he'll propably charge me $150.00 labor to do = $450.00. Well after thinking I soon remembered my sells rep at stillen. If all the performance shops are selling their kit why not have them do it....cut out the middle man and save some $$$...So I contacted my sells rep at stillen and told him about my situation and He told me to send him my valve body and he would have his tech inspect it and if it qualifies for a valve body upgrade then they will do it,$600.00. If not they will send my paper weight back and I go to plan B...buy a valvebody from GTM for 900 + 900 (core)=1800.00 and send them my damage VB. And roll out. Plan C If it stills misses up replace the tranny and stick my vb upgrade in my new tranny:-) then roll out

If ure tranny is slipping the vb upgrade will not solve the issue. Vb is only to allow faster shifting so I don't no what ure tranny guy is telling u. If it is indeed slipping u need to take it back to the dealer and have them replace the tranny or u can buy a built tranny for 3k which will last up to 600whp.
Well I thought about that too. I have a core tranny in my shop whose gears got burnt up do to an individual trying to pull their car with a dolly
. Nevertheless, I'm going to stick that valvebody in my car. If it does the same thing then I'm going to buy a use tranny but Im still going to do the vb upgrade no matter what.
What got me puzzled is that my car only has 80k and I get the fluids changed by infinity reg. Its only been sc a total of about 2000 miles,1500 miles back in march and about 500 miles since august and I don't dog it out. I ran it two times down the track. In addition, I added a extra tranny cooler, so I goes through the radiator and then into an external tranny cooler then back into the tranny. I rarely drive the car since I bought my m3 and civic coupe.
I really want to hear from some auto boosted vqs. How is your system holding up? What mods did you do?

I have about 70,000 miles boosted one way or another and have had the V/B mod for what i think is about 3 years with a trans cooler and im still doing fine.I have the Greddy Twin setup and i really dont drive it hard all the time.....i do get on it alot and dont waist your money on the Stillen v/b mod as its juat a waist of money......and yes i drove in a car with the stillen mod and it sucked compared to the Transgo.

go to summit racing and order your VB reprogramming kit
it was around $225 and not that hard to install yourself as their are a few how to in here.
why not try that first as no mater what if it still slips you will want that valve-body in your new trany anyway.

Make sure you're always driving in manual mode. With F/I in D, you'll eventually slip and blow your clutches. This is because the transmission isn't expecting the added TQ and granny shifts and/or TQ converter not locking in boost = fast track to fail.

I talked to stillen and they said once you do the vb up grade there is no need to put it in manual mode. He also said millen races a automatic g with the vb upgrade.
I'm sure Stillen's VB works great with the whopping 300-320whp the Stillen supercharger creates. When you are talking about 400whp and 350wtq the other superchargers are easily capable of, the Stillen VB won't be enough.
Once you do any VB it eliminates the need to be in MM. HOWEVER, this is only true if you are romping on it from a standstill. If you traveling at 50mph and decide to punch it - this type of action WILL destroy the 5AT. This creates a huge torque spike - torque kills the 5AT, along with heat. So even with a VB it is still wise to be in manual mode whenever deciding to floor it. If you are cruising at 60mph and want to have fun, flip it into MM, downshift appropriately, and then get on it.

did i cancelled my order with, but they refuse to refund my credit card. They didnt even do the work on the vb. New ways I went with the transgo kit which was pretty easy to install. I havent romp on it yet. The instruction say drive atleast 70 miles. But the new tranny is shiftying great! So once I hit the 70mile marker I km going to but my sc cog belt back on. Thanks for all the wonderful info. I can't wait unitl I take it to the track. I hope the headers and and vb upgrade gets me close to 13.2's and maybe with some drag radials high 12's:-)
