Default Newbie with ?'s

Ok everyone..I currently drive a maxima and want to upgrade. Now I am having a tough decision between the S2000, 350Z, and G35. I test drove the S2000 today..it was pretty quick but not all I expected. I have to wait about 2-3 weeks for the 350Z to come to my town. And there is no Infiniti dealer out here..so I may not be able to try the G35. What is everyone's honest opinion on all these cars...and which do you guys think I should go with? Sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forums. Any help would be good..thanks.

Aside from the fact that we Z folks have beat this dog to death I'll try my best to give you MY opinion.

heres my take:

S2000 - A tad bit slower than the others but I love this car and I wouldn't mind having one if I didn't already have a Z. It's a true roadster from the ground up and fun to throw around considering it's so light. However, you have to keep the rpm's high because it's pretty tamed when driven conservatively. It's a little too small of a car for my taste considering i'm over 6 ft tall and the interior has the dimensions of a go-kart. Once again...love the car though because the aftermarket is endless for customizing.

G35 - I originally liked this car before it came out. I was dissapointed with how the Z concept came about so the G looked like a winner. I finally saw the car in person next to the Z and it looked a little too yuppy for my taste. I wanted a car that was tunable and pure but the G didn't really fit that category. If you look back Japanese Sports/ luxury coupes don't age too well. With that said the G is still an awesome car considering it's a close variant to the Z. If I had to keep a car completely stock, had some kids, i'd probably go with a G.

350z - What can I say about this car? It rides like it's on rails. I never liked the concept but seeing the car in person kinda blew me away. The interior is very spartan and is void of any luxury b.s. but I can live with it. In other words.. you can stare at pics all day long it's nothing like gawking at one close in person.
The custom potential of this car is endless. I won't compare it's performance because the other two cars are fairly close. The ride is kinda bumpy too but I haven't really been in any other sports car that have been any smoother. (including 911 turbo, Nsx, Mr2,)

Very general thoughts hopefully the other members could give you their take.

Okay we heard from a Z owner so now I'll give you my take (I own a G35 coupe 6mt )

I agree with 35oZephyR about the S2000. It's a great car but a little small and you have to keep it in the higher rpm's

now my opinion on the other 2

The Z...
pros
A little bit quicker, more agressive, better aftermarket support, more attention.

cons
Only two seats (not a con for all), Nissan service.

The G35 coupe...
pros
Still very fast, more luxury stuff, back seat, Infiniti service and better warranty

Cons
Nobody knows what it is.

If you don't care about the back seat or nissan service. and if you want to get noticed then get a Z

With that said, I think the Z is the best car of the 3. If I was single I would have saved some money and bought the Z instead of the G.

Again this is only my opinion so let's not flame me.

350Z aftermarket = G35 aftermarket, it's the same platform. It is extreamly rare that any 350Z aftermarket item not work on the G and I mean EXTREAMLY rare, this of course includes the sedan to.

You absolutely have to drive all three of your choice's, I mean that's a given. I much prefered the Z as my weapon of choice, but in the end couldn't get past the 2 seater thing, the G coupe with a sunroof would not fit me and wasn't aggressive enough for me handling wise, sedan fits me and I've converted it to be much more Z like in handling. Still wish I had a Z though, make the color Le Mans sunset

Here's my take:

I had a 350Z on order for 3 months. I decided to look at the G. Found out the mt comes with the Brembo brakes & 18" wheels (which I think look very good). $2250.00 package adds on Bose 6 disc, 225 watt stereo, leather interior, heated power seats, sunroof, individual climate control (for what its worth). I think the factory wing looks alot better than the Z.
I bought the G and paid the same price as the Track model Z.
Personally it feels like the interior is a little better built & it also rides a little better. I like having the extra room. The G is a class ride.
The Z is more of a sports car, but not by much. I agree with the above statements about the Honda. I think the new Acura TL is interesting if you wanted a 4 door.
Good luck

Pardon my ignorance...does the G35 have the different options? Such as Touring, Enthusiast...etc?

G35 only has premium and nav for the main options.

I LOVE the s2000 over the 350Z however. The S2000 just has an overall more satisfying driving experience over a 350Z... which just seems like a muscle-car lite... Steering is a bit sluggish, no sunroof (assuming you don't want the roadster) and something about the cockpit just doesn't seem to have the same feel as the S2000. If you are a bigger guy, then the 350Z will probably suit your needs better... my friend who is 6'4 275 drove the Z around fitting relatively well. Also, the Z seems to have more than its fair share of problems compared to an s2000... although they say the 04's have corrected virtually all the main complaints and issues (except tire feathering which is still showing up on some 04 350zs) The G35 is virtually identical the 350z in terms of drivetrain performance, but the overall feel is significantly different. You sit higher up in the cockpit, which detracts from the overall experience, and the steering is definitely more assisted than the 350z. I personally like the S2000 over both cars, but for practicality reasons, went with the G35 coupe 6MT. Another idea... why not try to find a used Z06 around the same price as a new G35/Z/S2k?

Another thing:

If praticality was thrown out the window and you consider marginal performance differences to be trivial than it all really comes down to what your style is.

Go stand in front of a mirror and look yourself in the eye like this:
Then you ask yourself in a serious voice "Picture me rollin... what kind of a person am I?"

I know this sounds stupid but my car is very much an extension of who I am so knowing who you are and how you want your car to be is something alot of people overlook. It's personal preference...just think what car looks beautiful to you...regardless of what random people say about it.

If one car is awesome in your eyes then go for that one...take all it's negatives into consideration but highlight the things that really excite you. Honestly these three cars are SUPERB and theres not a huge negative factor in any of them that would sway me so it comes down to what you like.

I promise you this though:
When you already have that car, the one your heart told you was beautiful before you bought it, will get MORE awesome to look at and sit in each time you walk out to the garage or walk towards your car after a night on the town. It just gets better. Go with what your heart tells you...and of course your wallet.

Hello Nick,

The S2K - awesome handling on this car, best of the three. But the engine needs to be revved to the sky to get performance. Also has only two seats - virtually no practicality. It's a a toy car pretty much.

The Z - handling is a bit more heavy than the S2K - but it can hang right in there with the S2K. More power, more even power band. Bumpy ride (like the S2K), but what do you want from a sports car? A little more practical than the S2K - but not much.

The G - handling is a tad heavier still than the S2K. Needs aftermarket shocks/sway bar to compete in AutoX versus the above two. Power equal to Z - there is little or no difference. It has a back seat, more luxury feel, and the Infiniti dealer experience as opposed to Nissan.

Each car has its' pluses and each has some minuses. It all depends what YOU want from the car. I bought the G because I needed some practicality from the car and wanted a little more ride comfort. Also dealing with Infiniti is generally easier than the same deal with Nissan. I also liked the looks of the G more - but that is personal taste. You may like the looks of the S2K or the Z more - none of the three is unattractive.

The question really here is what YOU want from a car - do you want to toss it around? (get the S2K.) Do you want some more power without revving and still have almost the same handling (get the Z.) Do you want the same power as a Z but have a more forgiving car for the daily grind? (get the G.)

Good luck on your choice - remember you are probably going to be living with the car for at least three to five years, so get something that you think you will like a few years down the road.

- Riff

Well, this is what I have come up with. The S2000 does not fit my needs, the 350z which I still have to test drive at least once, again probably will not fit my needs, so I think my final decision will be the G35 due to the fact that I have a little girl due soon. Gotta have that back seat just in case, the wife does have a 03 CR-V so we might be able to get the 350, but to be on the safe side we may go with the G35. And thanks again for all the comments people!
