Default g35 coupe seats vs. 350z

I have a Z roadster and am wondering if any of you G 35 coupe owners have compared seats and would say the G's are more supportive or better articulated? I'm having trouble adapting to the Z's seats and from pictures, the G's seats appear a little more plush and at least have a lumbar support which is lacking in the Z (for some unknown reason). I haven't yet had a chance to get to an Infiniti dealer to check them out. If they fit me better, I may actually look into replacing at least my driver's seat. I figure they should look similar enough...except for the Infiniti logo...but that wouldn't bother me...

any feedback would be welcome...Thanks!

they shouldn't be too difficult to retrofit. to my knowledge, the leather on the G35 is much softer than on the 350z touring. Its just a matter of your willingness to deal with the INFINITI logo stitched into the leather seat you're looking to replace.

I simply want my seats as low as the Z's!

I'd recommend that you try breaking in your seat first before changing them. Put at least 4000 miles on the car and see if that makes a difference. The seats in my G35 were uncomfortable at first -- tended to hurt my back and my right leg -- but I have no problems now.

Plus, the driver seat is higher than the one in the Z, which would obviously have you sit up higher. The difference in viewpoint may affect the way you drive, which in turn may change the way the car feels to you in handling.

Thanks. I have about 4500 miles on this car and my level of comfort comes and goes. I have made a number of adjustments to the lumbar area myself by trying out various types of cushions, placing them within the seatback itself to provide the additional support I need. the Z's seats are real easy to get into from that perspective. For the most part, I think I may have mitigated the problem significantly, but there is still just that bit of curiosity about whether another seat with better ergonomics would be the best answer. I've got a sensitive back to be sure, but this is the only car where I've had the problems I have, and it is very frustrating. In the meantime, I'll keep adjusting the extra support that I'm adding to the back side in hopes of getting just the right amount of support in the right places. I've become known on a first name basis at the local "relax the back" store! I do appreciate the commentary...it helps me to decide whether or not I want to put any energy into pursuing this as a solution, so thanks.

You might also look into whether the Nismo racing seat would give you better back support. (It certainly does on the sides).

As for the Infiniti seat, it is excellent on the lumbar, and overall more comfortable. (You can just pop by the Infiniti store and sit in a coupe to check it out!!)

But, I find that I am slipping around in it. I am not a small guy at 6' and 180lbs, but there is just too much butt slide in cornering, even with the bolsters in those seats, so I am looking into putting either Nismo race seats or possibly a Recaro shell on the driver side.

Thanks...I was in your fair city a couple weeks ago for the parade and all! We had a blast. Hey, if you think you like the Z seats...maybe we could trade...(half serious, I think...).

I have had my Z for 15 months and love the seats. I sat in a G35 Sport at the LA Auto Show last weekend and was suprised how uncomfortable the seats were. They have motorized controls for up/down and pitch but the forward/back is manual. They have significantly less side support to hold you in during cornering. Just my opinion, but I would look at after market seats instead of the Infinity's.

Well, I've logged miles in both, and -

Legs - echo that - the Z seat trashed my legs at first and then eventually broke in (or broke me). Center is too soft for the stiffer front and sides (at least for my 180 lbs)

The G seat is higher in the car by about 3" I think, add that to the lower door sills and you'll feel a lot higher in the car. When I was driving the Z a lot, I tried an M3 and hated the driving position just for that reason.

I have the G seats cranked as low as I can. Guess this is part of 350Z Withdrawl Syndrome ("3-ZWS"), trying to get my *** back closer to the road.

G35 blew it with the manual side and no memory. Either make it all manual or do it up with all 3 controls, and with a back seat, no memory is stupid.

Bottom line is I would have eventually replaced the Z seat. I don't think I would with the G35, but I am still screwing around with the controls every ride.

I wonder if the seat brackets off a 350 would lower the G seats (brackets on the floor).

Worth looking into - we need one of those guys with access to all the FM pics - I have one for the Z seat from the "seat rocks/rattles" thread. Even an inch would be welcome change.

I am interested in the SCCA. But, it seems I can't comfortably wear a helmet (sunroof). ANother inch would be great. Three would be outstanding - no problems with the roof.

Here is a reply from a bad back. My Chev PU has excellent lumbar support, as does our Lincoln Town car.
Test drove the G35 for about half hour not realizing it had lumbar adjustments and was just about a basket case when I got back. Looked at the seat and found the adjustment and set it all the way out and felt I could live with it and bought the car.
Now with about 600 miles in it I feel it is barely acceptable. I'm hoping it will get better. I would really check it out before I bought one, I'm sure they are very expensive.
Good luck, Chris

GCP seats are definitely more comfortable than the Z seats and the Infiniti leather is way better too but HEY, we can't have everything. The seats are swapable if you can't adjust.

I found the lumbar very effective only when I had the right combo of tilt, height, etc. whatever those 3 switches do plus the manual lever - it took my awhile, too.

I'd also give them some break-in time, the leather is great and they are excellent seats.

The lumbar is not very effective until you've lined up the rest of the adjustments, and that has taken me about 500 miles to get down - coming straight off a 350Z, too. Sort of felt like an idiot going from all manual adjustments to the GCoupe

I've tried both.... (I love my seats in my sedan) I find the G coupe seats offor more support than the Z's but I'd rather have the more agressive Z seats if I owned a Z....
