Default Raced a Z today in my g35 coupe

Hey guys.. not sure if you guys know But I just traded my Z for a black g35 coupe /nav .. every option. I installed a Borla Exahaust and Po pcharger,, anyways I really miss my Z and I feel the power diffrence,, but tonight I came across a Daytona blue Z and we went at it 3 times I took it 2 out of 3 all from a light? Maybe my mods helped we chated he is completly stock and we both have autos.. He said he left it in dribe and gunned it as I used Tiptronic... anyways I was shocked..I think they are honeslty equally as fast or very very close ....but I think what really made me feell like the g35 c was slower (besides extra weight) is the suspension... honestly I find that when i went 60 mph in my z and went 60mph in my g35 coupe The Z just felt faster due to the suspension? anyways I dunno....I am lowering my Cra with Teins sprinsg about 1 in a Half inches all around on friday.
Can't wait!

Wow, I have never lost to a Z.
I only have Borla TD and a Z tube. I have raced manual and AT Z's and have beaten them by "just" barely to about a car length.

tailspinz, what did i say when i pm'ed u long time ago??
just like i said, don't listen to people cuz they all have at least 1% of biased toward any car... you just need to find out yourself...
the race result showed exactly what i said to you b4...
oh and for the punch thingy, i felt a lot more punch in a prelude when that hits VTEC but is the prelude faster?

aww cmon...I had a 97 prelude. The vtec hit at 5100 was "a punch" but *nothing* like the visceral clawing urge forward that is a Z from 1800 up.

it was prolly the "bounce" tho...

The G's better stock tires probably make a good traction difference on a launch, IMO. (assuming the Michelin equipped Gs)

i bet it is not as much the suspension that gives you the "feel" difference as it is all the dampening in the g35...it is insulated WAAAAAY better, so you do not hear the road/wind/engine/speed as much. Yeah if you swap out the intake tube and the exhaust and some stuff you will make ita bit louder, but the car is waay quieter which accounts for most of what you are feeling I bet

But when I run my g35c against my roommates Z i get left in 4th every single time because fo the weight more than anything. I have ztube and that is it as far as performance mods and he has very little also (like grounding kit and stuff), but i have a stereo system plus the stock weight difference...that is the difference betweent he two cars more than anything...

at least in my opinion...

Dude, just because your car got punch dont mean its fast. FYI, the reason why the Z you feel more push and punch is because your right... suspension. I believe, the car is a hatch back which means it alters the feel of the car vs the coupe. The center brace in the Z is also one of the reason why you feel the punch and what not. If you notice the G is solid in everyway while the Z seems open or hollow at some places. That can be the very reason why you think the G is a lot slower but its not really. All in the driver.

I decided to stick my head in your forum to see what you G guys talk about. I can't believe you guys are discussing beating Zs. I have the track model and I beat Gs every single time. It is not a sports car. It's a sport coupe/sedan. I'm not saying your engine is weaker ,because it's not, but the weight is definitely an issue. Unless , you take out your back seat , spare tire, and whatever else you have to take to make the weight equivalent to the Z, and if your going to do all that to beat a Z, you should have just bought the Z. When I beat a guy with a G, and his comment is man that Z is Quick, I say and so is your G and it looks nice as well. I think they are both nice cars.

Well...
looks like you live in Columbia MD, I live in Ellicott City MD so i'm pretty darn close to where you live... just wondering, have you raced 6spd g35coupe yet? cuz since last year(july) i only saw 4 6spd so far... looks like all the people around us buy AT over 6spd(include myself )... and track z suppose to beat g35coupe and anyway one reason i can think why most g35 lose is you know At tranny suppose to learn your driving style and adjust to that style... which will make slower(i think most people don't even reset the ECU after the break in period)... i hate to say this(since i'm only 18 and own g) but everytime i see g35coupe passing i see gray hair... that's good enough for me to say myself he won't reset his ECU ever... just a thought...

Your mods probably help even out the difference. 200lbs is a lot of weight...and the G lacks the CF driveshaft as well...so I strongly suspect some lousy driving on behalf of the Z drivers and excellent driving on your behalf. But it's pretty simple to see that performance is in favor of the Z.

Good idea, but I'm not so sure I agree with you. The Z is definitely slightly noisier, but not much more so. The G is actually a pretty noisy car too - mostly b/c of the tires and the location of the engine. The G doesn't have the prob w/pebbles hitting the rear wheel wells and reverberating through the hatch though...
I dynamatted the rear of my Z, and it's pretty darn close to a G in terms of noise.

G beating Z and Z beatiung G is all attanable. Like i said in the other thread... the performance for these two cars are so simliar it boils down to drivers race. If a auto raced a auto, the Z would win by and inch or whoever punchs the gas first. But the Z does have the weight advantage but i would much rather think drivers race. YOu have some mods in your car so i wouldnt doubt your beat a auto Z.

PS: i do know you traded your Z for a G and that you seem to think your Z has more punch than the G=)

Default settle down

Be careful guys, a G35 with aftermarket BBS RG-R's or Nismo 18" wheels might be surprising. As far as "street light special olympics" goes, there is a rule of thumb about unsprung weight. If you drop 5 lbs of unsprung weight, that is equivalent to 100 lbs of sprung weight. Some Toyo T1-s on some light 18" wheels and you can easily drop about 30 lbs of unsprung weight. Inertia can be your best friend when talking about acceleration...

BTW... Both cars are GREAT! Different purposes for different individuals. The G35 is simply an attempt to put a backseat into a 350Z without too high of a price increase, and without too much of a performance hit. I think NISSAN did a GREAT job with both cars.

Also, I'm a G owner who's modding like mad and staying as stealth as possible, so beware...
