Question 350Z vs. G35 Coupe

Just curious how many of you sold your 350Z to get a G35 coupe?

I am thinking about getting rid of my 350Z to buy a G35. I have two kids and it would be nice to have the whole family in the car. I wanted to buy a G35 to begin with, but opted to save a little money and buy the 350Z.

Does anyone here have a decent picture of a 2004 twilight blue G35? I am thinking about buying a black or twilight blue G35. (It has to be a 6-speed) I wanted to buy a Caribbean blue G, but the local dealership told me they closest caribbean blue car was in Minnesota, and I am in Connecticut. I have not test driven a G35, but I do not think the ride would be much different than my Z. I am going to test drive the G on Friday--hopefully I won't be disappointed.

I have traded in the 350z for a g35 coupe 6mt. Best move ever... even after i got killed on the trade-in.

A few notable differences.

ride quality is SLIGHTLY softer on the G.
ride height is higher.
the bose on the g35 is a TON better than on the 350z touring.
lack of the three information gauges on the center console.
Other than that, there is a less pronounced intake sound, the engine sound is virtually mute, although the exhaust note is identical.

Throw in a superior warranty and rear seats and this is everything the Z is and then some. I may be biased, but other than the "the Z is a true sports car" argument, the G outperforms the Z in all aspects EXCEPT straight line acceleration where the Z has a slight advantage. If you're willing to take the hit on a trade-in, go for it. It may be worth it for you as well.

I saw the Twilight blue at the new york auto show in person, its definitely a gorgeous color. Personally i'd go for a black or diamond graphite. I have a brilliant silver, but I find it a bit bland to be honest.

"G outperforms the z in all aspects EXCEPT straight line acceleration"

-Can you or ANYONE else who'd like to chip in, be more specific with the details?

-I'd like to know what makes it better as far as performance is concerned.-curious minds would like to know.

Even in straight line acceleration.

I have NEVER had a Z beat me in a race, and I have a 5AT!!

ummm.... straight line acceleration and also handling is where the 350z will shine... billR u must be racing some sorry 350z drivers if u beat them with an auto g35.... I run 13.8 at the track with my auto 350z faster than any stock g35 manual.

the look of the G35 is to die for... especially if its lowered and has some nice wider rims on it...

wrong. the G35 pulled .92 G's on the skidpad, the 350z, .87G.
Why? The G35 has a longer wheelbase which attributes to more stability when cornered hard.

I do not have any first hand experience in comparing the G and Z, but I can quote Car and Driver's November 11, 2003 Ultimate Comparisons issue: They were comparing an RX-8, G-35 and a Shelby Mustang. They stated: ".., the G35 was no slouch in the performance department. Clocking 14.2 seconds at 100mph in the quarter mile, this G coupe was quicker than the last 350Z we tested (December 2002), despite the 137 pounds heavier (3500 versus 3363) and motivated by seven fewer ponies (280 versus 287). With a 60 mph available in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 155, this is one fast coupe."

With the same drive train both cars are great performers---you can not really go wrong with either car.

Go for the G35,
My Husband Says He drove both the automatic and The stick when He bought One For me For My Birthday. and said the automatic felt a lot faster,
from 0-80 mph with the vdc button shut off.
He Presently drives a 1991 Chevy ZR-1 6 Speed With Aprox 375 hp.

LOL I love seeing this argument every time! People need to search, I'm tired of seeing BillR repeat the same post and TheMyst have to reexplain himself. I hope those guys have some sort of macro to post the same message over and over...otherwise they spend a lot of time typing! (nice of them to do so I might add).

Mike326HO the best solution is to go and drive them both. If you like the G more, please buy it and enjoy it. It IS a very different car from the Z, but depending on what you want that may be a very good thing. The same old magazine quotes have been rehashed ad nauseum.

Which car is better on the track? G35 Coupe 6MT or Z Touring 6MT.

so it's true...the g handles better than the z?...because of longer wheelbase?

sigh...
p.s. wasn't there a thread with a stock z pulling a 1g on the skidpad(i think he changed the front strutbar)

yes in "STOCK" form g35 will handle a bit better than 350z due to longer wheelbase and much better tires(18s w/pilots)... but if 350z puts equal or better tires than pilots than 350z will outhandle g35(i think)... but then 350z is not STOCK anymore... u get the point... so stock to stock g35>350z

actually the skidpad .92 vs .89 is simply attributed to the sticker pilot sports vs the re040s. I dont understand why nissan used the re040. Granted it IS a run-flat tire, but we have a spare either way.

Dont believe the hype. Or not....

.92 vs .87. Also, the RE040 is not a runflat tire. at least not the stock tires on the 350z.

u just agreed that g35 handles better in stock form .. pilot comes stock in g35(which is PART of g35) while 350z comes with crappy tires(those crappy tires are PART of 350z)... and if tires are simply only matters, then our g35 owners will say SIMPLY loose 200lbs on our cars and put 350z tube in it and run equally to those 350z...

Excuse me,

What did I say to aggravate you so much? I just went back and read the thread, I didn't see anything that I could construe as inflammatory. So I'm gonna have to pull the WTF is wrong with you card? I suggested people search, b/c this is the 1000th time I've seen the post, and there are some great threads on this topic.

People tend to have varying opinions. Maturity is the ability to respect that without making yourself sound like a 4 year old *** clown.

NzZ

PS - If anyone else can point out what I've done to tick this guy off, please let me know.
