Hey all,
I got my dynamat in a few days ago, and thought today would be a good day to start the process. I have never used dynamat before, so today was the first time applying it.

I got this "bulk" kit (dynamat extreme) off ebay for about $90 plus shipping. Contains 36 sq. feet in the form of 9 sheets

Back to the topic. I found it easiest to make a template out of paper and then transfer it to the dynamat for cutting.

Here is what the original back looks:

Notice the olive drab mat. It is not glued down or anything, rather just sitting there. I don't know how good it does at dampening the sound.

Here is a pic of the first sheet I applied.


The sheets are rather easy to apply. Once the template is made, simply start at a corner and slowly press into the crevases and such. I used a 1" wallpaper wooden roller to help smooth everything out and make sure there is a tight bond between the dynamat and the metal.

I cut a special piece to cover the lids, rather than just leaving it solid. No need to do anything if they have to be removed.

I finished the other side and used some of the scraps to fill in some of the other areas.


This is not a quick project, nor is it relaxing work. :P Tomorrow I will work and remove the side panels to get to the wheel wells, where I will put 2 layers of dynamat. Then I'll move up to the front of the car and do under the floormats/front wheel wells. Leftovers will probably be put in the trunk area.

With these layers, there is a slight decrease in road noise. The real "hot" spots are above the wheel wells.

great information...bigger project than I would dare to take on.....I am with afro ont he freshalloy boards...I would end up with 3 screws a couple washers and like 2 screws left over...

I would love to dynamat my G, but I can't justify adding more weight to my 3400 lb beast...

Interesting. So how much weight did you add on to your G? Isn't there a spray can form of Dynamat?

The bulk pack is 36 sq feet and weighs 15 lbs. Not that much weight.

There is a spray on form, that you use for the outside of your car, like the plastic liner of the wheel wells. I'm not sure how effective it is.
