Default R&T test g35 vs rx8

did you guys see the new issue of R & T. in the head to head test between the g35 abd the rx8, the rx8 won? it sort of surprised me because all through out the article they prasied the g35. then at the end with tallies points the rx8 came out ahead. no one in their right mind would get an rx8 over a g.

Someone who is looking for a weekend trackday (road course) ride could very well pick the RX-8 over the G. The RX-8 is a lighter, more nimble handling car out of the box. (and it's less expensive) The G35, IMHO, is a much better all-around car. The torque is what made the choice to buy a G over the RX-8 a no-brainer. The G is much more luxurious, it has a better warranty, and in my eyes it looks better. Magazines have based these tests on a variety of factors so I take them all with a grain of salt.

they loved the fact that they could powerslide G at any moment, any where at the track....they loved the styling of the G better, but i guess ultimately, they had to make an decision based on overall dynamics of the vehicle, which i think the RX-8 is a bit more agile. but who cares....we're not in the same league...

It's a very objective review and Mazda has been spending a lot more money in advertising then Infiniti has. I hate to say it, but that's how it works. I work in media (technology sector) and most operations are quite biased.

I like the RX8 but.. The G is so much better looking. The rx8 CAN look good but from the factory I don't really like them. I saw a few at the sema show I loved though.

Torque is the only thing the renesis motor lacks.... besides that it rides better and handles better then the g35, i test drove both.
if you gave the 8 a test drive youd know it puts a smile on your face every time you get in

i give the G credit for thier engine, pretty nice. but i dont know how it won for looks.

I test drove the "8" and was very disappointed. If could have been forecasted that I would have been. I owned a 2k Miata for 3 years. When looking for a replacement, I test drove 2 S2000s. The interior was a lot tighter than the Miata, but what was really disappointing was the engine. It was expecting the 100hp over my Miata to feel a lot stronger. It has no torque. It just keeps revving. If I shifted under 7K, it wasn't even faster than the Miata and cost a lot more. i don't want to reve to 9K all the time to make the car feel fast.

I am actually an old V8 guy and the only thing I didn't like about the Miata was the lack of power (torque). I wanted the next car to help fill this gap. From owning a Miata, I expected a lot out of the RX-8 and didn't get it. While promised, the handling is no where near the sharpness of a Miata. It has far slower turn-in and much slower catching balance when shifting. The engine feels exactly like the S2000. It never feels to have any power, it just keeps revving. I don't understand why they don't just add rolors like the 20B in the Cosmo in Japan. The use a 4-rotor 26B in racing, so why couldn't they use one in a street car. You could have 300hp with 300 lb-ft of torque without having to rev to 9K. This was compounded even more by the cheap plastic interior giving just a disappointing impression of the car.

The only advantage to using small displacement engines is their ability to make better gas mileage. After reading the article, Mazda has really screwed up on this one. The RX8 with its 1.3l engine only averaged less than 14 mpg, while the G35 with a 3.5l averaged over 18.

my business partner has the "high power" version here in the UK. For reasons I wont go into we swopped for 1 week. My 350GT was standard at the time, even so he thought it the better package. My experience of the 8 was mixed. Around the city I never got out of second gear (you have to keep it in the 5k-7.5k rev range). There's a lot of pleasent engine whirlllll, which is quite cool at first, but do 100 miles on the motorway and you soon get to hate it. For an everyday ride the G wins hands down.

If you have seen the video of the road race between the S2000 , G35 , miata, RX8 ,and 2 other I cant think of right now .The only thing that the RX8 beat was the Miata . Its a DOG .Mags. are paid by the Auto makers to wright the biased reviews . Oh ya one of the other cars was a Acura Rx . The G35 started in back , RX8 in front with the Miata .S2000 in second row .The S2000 got out front quick and pulled away .The G35 passed all others and was slowly pulling in the S2000 at the end of the 5 lap race . All proffesional drivers

I won't buy a rotary, sorry.
Also, the difference in price was like $1,000 in the "Price As Tested" note, but in the scoring based on pricing didn't they score by Base Price? Seems a little silly to do it that way, no?

^^^haha rotaries kick ***.
and the reworked 13b should prove to be a great engine that lasts a long time.

I havent had enought SEAT time in a G35 to make a decision between the two. But i've driven the RX8 plenty, yea its slow (my friend and I go to the track his best is 15.4) but it is damn fun to drive.

The interior design is interesting with the rotary theme, a little gimmicky. Neither car uses the best materials inside but the Gs are definitely nicer.

In the end of the day i think most of the time they wont really be cross shopped. The G coupe i believe is swiftly beating the RX8 in sales (righT?). And it should i think it has a broader appeal...not to mention a cleaner exterior design. (though both look great IMO)

In the end I would have a tough time choosing...honestly I couldn't say which I would pick of the two.
