Default Popcharger Power Loss

I recently took off my JWT Popcharger to reoil it and put the stock airbox on temporarily just to see the difference between using the Popcharger and not. After a week of driving with the stock airbox and Z tube you can definitely notice more low end and better acceleration than with the Popcharger....its definitely a more torquey feel and even at higher speeds I found greater acceleration....Can someone else confirm this? I think I might just get a K&N drop-in now

I think that with a short ram or cold air intake, people have noticed some torque loss at low rpms and some gains at high rpms. The stock air box is actually engineered pretty good.

While driving along at 45mph+, actual temp readings at the MAF sensor of the air the popcharger is injesting show that the best it can do temp wise is around +19 degree's to outside air temps. Oem and some other intake system's manage +9 degree's to outside temps. . Slow down and the air it injest's spike much more. So if you puttin around down and decide you want to plant it, your working on much hotter air them normal and you'll suffer accordingly. I have no reason to not believe the popcharger makes power, however, remember that dyno's are done open hood. And while stationary with the hood open you do not have the normal amount of hot air trapped underhood. That being said, even a simple box like build up to surround the filter, more then just a side shield of course, should greatly help the intake air temps at 45mph+, do it right and you should be able to come with 1 degree at speed of the oem system. You'll still have a temp problem around town however.
