the AVE unit also has rear view capability. what you do is hook up the rear-sensing wire from the AVE to the tail light harness (so the wire gets +12V when the reverse lights are engaged.... so now the unit knows when you're in reverse)
when the AVE senses power on it's reverse wire, it automatically turns itself on and switches to AV3 input, which is where you hook the camera up to. what's nice about this is that i can turn on the unit myself whenever i want and see the camera while i'm driving, i dont NEED to be in reverse for it to work.
for power to the camera, i had power hooked up in the trunk already b/c i hardwired a power inverter back there, so i spliced off of that. any 12V power source in the trunk area will work fine. my friend's car has a reverse cam too, and his installer hooked the camera power to the reverse lights too. while this is an acceptable way to do it, the camera wont be able to operate while the car is moving forward then... which is probably not necessary anyways but like i said i think it's cool.
to run the wiring out the the license plate area, i found a factory grommet down near the spare tire that led to the exterior of the car.
the camera is a Pionner NDBC-1 universal rearview camera. it provides horizontal mirroring (necessary for a rearview camera so that it will function just like a rearview mirror and not be backwards) at the hardware level and for output uses standard RCA style video wire. all in all, worth the money. i paid $175 with an eBay "Buy It now".... retail is $250 i believe.
lemme know if you need more info... my car has been in the body shop for 3 weeks getting the fender fixed, but when i get it back i can try to take some pics to illustrate.
pic of the PS2...

and a pic of my other interior mod, hardwired V1 display in the ashtray... the red button is part of the AVE so that if i'm watching movies i can kill the video on the screen if cops pull up.

well, i used the following in my install:
1. MiniPS2 - $150
2. AV Electronic Tuner ~$500
3. PAC Audio AAI-NIS - ~$90
4. Assorted Radio Shack goodies - ~$50
5. Pioneer NDBC-1 Rearview Camera - $175 eBay Buy it Now
the AV electronic is pretty simple to install, 4 of the wires plug right inline to the NAvi harness, the 5th is a little dicey b/c you gotta cut a factory wire and splice it in... took me about an hour to do the install carefully
the PAC audio box gives you sound via the SAT button for the DVD. this is a PITA as you have to plug it into the back of the stock radio, meaning you basically have to remove the entire console and radio to do it. it's a pain to get the entire inside of the car apart to get to the back of the radio, but once you get there, it just plugs right in.
for the PS2, it's hooked up to a power inverter and the video cable is wired into the AVE box, and it's secured in the glove box by heavy duty velcro

shot of the DVD player in action... Finding Nemo. note at the bottom of the pic that the radio says "SR1", which means i hit the SAT button and input 1 is selected (i use input 2 for the ipod, selected by hitting SAT again)
