Why would a K&N drop in filter mess up your MAF? It is just like a stock filter but better airflow.

The filter is oiled to acheive it's filtration. Sometimes, if over oiled the excess travels up the pipe and fouls the MAF.

I have had one for over 3 months now and no problems so far. I have also used them on other cars with no issues. The trick is to make sure that you don't over oil them after cleaning. Mine is still relatively new so that has not been needed yet.

If you havent had to clean it yet, then you shouldn't be worred about fouling the maf by over-oiling. When i do my JWT, I oil it then usually let it set for a few hours, and spin it ever once in a while.

the K/N drop in filter is a dry type filter so it will not mess with your MAF...i belive ppl who are having problems are those with filters that needs to be oiled

Too much oil(not factory) . New K&N filter will not be over oiled. More air will not mess up the MAF water or oil will only kill it. You should put it back in. Dont worry be happy your car will breath better.

I had it on my TBird before.

I was told to after cleaning, oil it. Then set it on some paper towels and leave it overnite to make sure any/all excess drips out. This was a cone-style one so I would just stand it on end and also put some paper towels inside.

Due to the overnite dry, I did it late sat night and leave it to sunday AM, or when you know you won't need the car for a while. Of course, with K&Ns you only do this once in a zillion miles, so is not a constant pain in the rear.

Yes, excess oil will travel up the tube and will set on top of th MAF fiilament until it stops working. I have heard of people using q-tips to clean the filament. I guess it would be worth a try, not much to loose if the MAF is bad anyway...

It is not dry type. It is pre-oiled and when you clean it you re-oil it. There is a K&N kit for that purpose. I have one now for 6 months and it's still clean. My previous car had one and I just followed the kit's instruction to the letter and viola no over oiling.

Not true, K&N filters are oiled from the factory.

I cleaned the MAF, we'll see how it does. I've got the SES light on from starting the car with the MAF disconnected, so it appears to still be idling higher now, need to see about turning off the SES then see how things are doing.

K&N drop-ins are so cheap, don't bother cleaning and oiling it yourself, risking a fouled MAF sensor. Just buy a new one.

~$40 per filter, CHEAP? I don't think so. I have much better use for $40 than an air filter. If you don't want to clean filters, stick to paper and change, thats cheap.

I rather pay $40 than to risk a fouled MAF sensor that costs $400 bucks to replace. Dumb? I think not.

Oh, and if you think $40 bucks is too expensive for an air filter, maybe you shouldn't be driving a Z. Stick to a civic.
