Default Ok stipid question...What are test pipes?

Newbie here looking to kick up the HP factor and was wondering about test pipes? What exactly are they that make them what they are.

Any ideas for CAI and exhaust packages?

Something that sounds good, not obnoxious, and good hp gains.

first of all use the search button!! second of all test pipes are just straight pipes that replace your cats... they will sound really raspy unless ur TT, so i reccomend you get resonated testpipes so they dont sound raspy.... kinetix and labree make Res. pipes.... tehy give you like 7-10 whp

Keep in mind that it is not legal to change out your cats before 50,000 miles(I beleive). But most of us did it anyway. Very good mod for the money. I have the R/T cats and I have no Rasp at all, and the R/T cats are the best flowing next to straight pipes. Also just about the most sound increase. The Kinetix and Labree won't be as loud.
