Default Test pipes and rattling sound on decel?

Hello.

I've searched the heck out of this and couldn't really find anyone with a solution to this problem I'm having. I found a few ppl with similar issues, but I don't think any of them ever fixed it. Here's the story...

Ever since I tossed on these helix pipes, I've had 2 issues...

1) Raspy exhaust note from 3-4K rpms - I understand that this is typical from a non-resonated pipe. So be it. I'll deal w/ this issue later.

2) When I shift gears anywhere above 3K rpms OR decelerate in gear from anywhere above 3K rpms....I get a loud rattling noise. It sounds like the system is rubbing on something, but I confirmed that it is not. The rattle goes away below 3K rpms, so it could be that something is vibrating/resonating only with a certain amount of engine movement.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Jon

so the consensus is that the decel rattle is rasp and not some odd vibration?

I see...

Did either of you have the stock cat pipe bracket welded onto your test pipes? The one that bolts to the tranny to absorb vibrations...

I'm looking for anything here to help this situation...

I'm thinking it might....especially since that is the sole purpose of that bracket...

Stock set up...no rattles. Add test pipes....rattle introduced.

I know a few people had the bracket welded back onto their pipes. Anyone want to add their testimonial on the helpfulness of this stock bracket?

Thanks!!

I have a Borla true dual exhaust and the Megan Racing resonated test pipes. There is no rasp! I immediately noticed a whisp sound after installing them. I rev up to 3k rpms and let off. When it gets to like 2300 rpms I hear it. I also hear it above 3k rpms under heavy acceleration and full load. I have welded in the eyelets and installed the stock bracket. It didn't help. I ended up disconnecting my exhaust and still heard it. There are metal shavings or something inside the resonators that are rattling around making that noise. Megan Racing is giving me another set, free of charge.

haha icic.

hm...resonated pipes probably help reduce some of these odd noises too. I have the borla TD as well w/ helix test pipes. I'm debating having the bracket welded back up, but i fear it won't help lol.

Anyone w/ test pipes and the stock bracket welded up? Do you have this rattling sound on decel/shifts?

Thanks for all your inputs guys!

I had pieces welded to the resonated test pipes and connected the stock bracket back on. It didn't help with my problem but may help with yours. Remember though, the bracket has rubber bushings. If you have extreme vibration it will probably help some but it won't cut it out completely.

Ya. It's because of those bushings and the fact that they needed them on the stock set up that's making me really curious to how much that bracket will help my situation.

Thanks for your thoughts. Anyone else running test pipes and the stock tranny bracket?
