Default Kinetix V5 plenum cracked.....

Well I tried to install my plenum tonight, everything was going fine until i began putting the plenum together, when I was tightening the throttle body down, the plenum cracked, the weird thing is, the bolt wasn't even tight, I guess even with the 5th revision there are still problems, I guess i have to wait and see what kinetix has to say

anyone else have problems with their V5 plenum cracking?

that's one thing i didn't like about the kinetix plenum, even if you got it on with no issues, you constantly have to re-tighten the bolts, no matter how much thread lock you put on it, because the manifold continues to stretch under load.
perhaps try the crawford?

Ive never retightened mine and I have about 10k miles on my V4. Maybe I should check that out.

When did they do a V5 and what is different from the V4?

Thanks

Have had Kinetix V4 with Vortech SC installed for better than eight (8) months. NO issues and have NEVER had to re-tighten the bolts. The only problems I had with V1 thru V3 were cracking issues. Kinetix "Customer Service" is the BEST and resolved those problems.

I have a V4 plenum and have not had any issues either. What part is prone to cracking? Is it the base of the 'tabs' where the bolts are located?

I think there are two kind of Loctite, get the stronger one, (red)? anyway.. put more and let it set for 24hrs. see if that helps.

Still cannot understand why someone would engineer a plastic plenum, and even less why someone would buy one.

you see plastic manifolds on cars like some of the dodge neons etc...
I guess it can work ok, but the way the plenum is desnigned on our car, it's not a great idea IMO.
oh well, some have not had issues with it so...

Didn't know they came out with a V5. Haven't had any problems with plenum though.

Must we get into another damn bash Kinetix plenums thread. I have had my V4 on for about 9 months and not had a single problem. I have Autocrossed the car, run it at the drag strip and done several 130+ MPH runs on the interstate and still have no problems. Sungnamz is running this plenum and has the Vortech SC. As long as everything goes as planned, I will also be running the Vortech with the Kinetix plenum. Hell, obviously people are spraying with this plenum too.

From what I have heard, the broken V4 and V5 plenums are due to overtorquing or manufacturing defects.

IMHO, the bottom line is that if you dont like the plenum, dont buy it. As long as people still buy their plenum, they will still make it.

You always hear about those plenums that fail. You never hear about the ratio of those who havent failed to those who have. It would be good to see how many plenums were bought and how many of those failed. Then I would like to see how many of those that failed were due directly to installer error. I think until we know answers to these, then just cause 1 or 3 fail here and there, that doesnt mean its a bad product.

So just cause the GReddy TTs are blowing engines left and right, does that mean that those TT kits shouldnt be bought anymore?

Anyway, I dont think we have any right to chastize Kinetix until we all know the ratio of total sold to total failures not due to installer error. Just my opinion.

Very good points! In addition, despite known "installer error", Kinetix continues to stand behind their products!

Why not? LS1's, LS2's, and the new LS7's, all use a plastic composite intake manifold. A lot of other car owners are begging for a plastic composite manifold, yet you are complaining. If you don't know why, then ask, instead of making a ignorant comment.
