Question resonaters removed on oem exhaust

Does anyone have any experience removing the resonators on the original exhaust? I just have the greddy muffler, crawford cats, kinetix plenum and JWT intake. I would like a deeper, more lively, grumbly sound like a V8.

Thanks for your advice.

Don't do it. Your Z will sound like crap and you'll also lose power. I did it and then bought a new mid-pipe to put it back the way it was about a week later.

Some of you guys associate rice with Z too much. I did this on my Z and I loved it. The only time it was raspy was when the car was cold and you went around 4000 rpm's. After 3 minutes of driving it sounded great, especially when rev matching and letting the revs just come down. I always recieved compliments on the exhaust note, and many people asked me if it was stock. If you think a Z with no resonator sounds like a rice rocket, put the pipe down-have you guys forgotten what a loud abnoxious droning exhaust on a Civic sounds like?? NOTHING like a Z, Lol....

Did you dyno your Z before and after the resonator removal? Do you have proof, I think this is BS, how could a resonator affect power, all they do is change the sound. If anything you'd pick up maybe 1 hp - Who knows without it. I guess you believe resonated test-pipes produce more power than regular test-pipes huh?

What about the loss of hp?? When I did it I could definitely feel a loss in power. That in conjunction with the fart-can sound mande me switch back quickly. I guess it's all a matter of opinion when it comes to sound, but you cannot deny that you lose power with the resonator gone. I KNOW I did.

How the hell do you KNOW you lost power? Again Ill ask you, do you have back to back dyno's to prove this? Your a$$ doesnt count BTW...ask anybody that knows anything about exhausts, a resonator will not affect performance, just alter the sound of the car.

BTW sorry but imo you shouldnt even use the word rice considering you list your painted engine covers as a mod, and you list graphics as a mod, stop making statements that have absolutely no validity, your only losing credibility by doing so.

thanks for your reply&attention,i was asking about resonator removal from the mid pipe (called cut flames over here) because B&B or magnaflow exhaust don't have one,you can check at: i-m-racing.com or bbtriflo.com (sound on the 350z is great)

removal:cut, pipe replacement to weld or to conn(don't know how to spell it)

I really dont see how removing the resonator would make you lose power, maybe your butt dyno would feel funny because you may lose some torque down low, but i think up top you would feel more power.

if you want to make your car sound more like a V8, you can't do it by your setup. Ditch the greddy's they are too conservative sounding to get to what you want the car to sound like. Second, changing the rsonators will probably change the exhaust note in a way you won't like.
I'm not sure on the power issue, i'd assume no resonators would be better, but i've no idea if it really does help or not with HP.

I heard another member's car that did this.. There was only a slight bit of rasp but it sounded like a bumble bee Civic .. needless to say, this mod didn't stay very long on his car.. but everyone's tastes are different.. some people like this sound so YMMV..

When I had a loud, annoying exhaust I had a tendency to drive slower just to keep the loud interior (and exterior) noise down. I found myself shifting at lower RPMs just to keep the exhaust from getting raspy. When passed 3500 rpms the car felt and sounded like it was at redline. In effect, the car actually FELT slower because of the way I was driving.

I recently switched to a Legalis-R exhaust, which is very quiet. My car actually feels faster because I can punch it up to 4-5k RPM without blowing my eardrums out and making an embarrasing raspy fart. I certainly enjoy driving the Z a lot more with a quiet exhaust!

Basically, I don't see how removing a resonator would effect power. But I definitely see how it could effect your driving, giving you the impression of less power.
