Default Manifold Bypass Mod

I recently completed the Manifold Bypass Mod, where the coolant hoses plumbed into the Upper Collector (manifold) are bypassed. This allows the manifold to run cooler and heatsoak less quickly. Used in conjunction with the PMI, or "Poor Man's Intercooler" it should maesurably reduce intake temps.

Complete write-up and pics are here:

I actually did this same type of thing when I installed my Kinetix plenum. The Kinetix has a seperate block for attaching the coolant hoses. Instead of bolting it to the plenum, I simply attached the hoses and zip-tied it out of the way.

It also makes installation a heck of a lot easier since you aren't trying to attach the hoses while putting the plenum on.

Hi,

Just as a reminder for those of you who live in below freezing temps during the winter, you probably want to reconnect the coolant lines when it gets that cold.

Cheers,

Gary

I ran a similar mod on my LT1 350 through 3 Chicago winters with no problems.........but thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep an eye on it.

so would those intake manifold gaskets fit the z....i had a similar gasket from hondata that reduced the intake temps significantly....they are made of teflon i believe. thanks for the info on the bypass...great idea and in conjunction with the gaskets should reduce your intake temps for more hp....cool. on my little 4 banger i made 5 more hp with the gasket and the bypass line.
