Default AAM spacer instructions kind of suck -- or else i suck

guys i'm pre-reading the aam instructions for the spacer. not well written imo.

questions:
1. i was supplied M10 30mm (6) bolts. the instructions say i should have 4. no where in the steps does it say where to actually use the 4 (or 6). tips?

2. i was told from AAM to buy M6 70mm (3) bolts. instructions dont mention this. no where in the steps does it say where to use it. tips?

3. steps 15-20: what the? can someone clarify what i'm actually achieving? whre are the washers that it mentions in step 17? do i have to buy this? iis this where i'm supposed to use the supplied 24 spacers?

any help would be appreciated.... i suppose i should just go in and open up the car and DO it but i always prefer just reading and understanding everything before doing.....

I agree they are not written well. I noticed you were in this thread but may have missed my last few posts, since I just installed it last night:

with the help of a local Z enthusiast, i was able to delineate the crude instructions.

i had massive leaking issues with the center 6 bolts... i tightened them all to within the in/lb specs... but still leaked.. i resolved it by turning on the engine, and hand-tightening them disregarding the specs heh... now the car purrs smooth and idle is solid.

Ha Ha! Good for you! Yeah, I was too chicken to keep tightening with all the warnings and with all the people that have broken heads off bolts...glad you got it to work without a trip to the store. Funny thing you mention the idle, I think this mod improved my idle from before with just the headers/cats!

it is weird, the instructions make NO mention of the fact that with the spacer, you will NOT be able to screw in the two nuts for the two studs on coming from the lower plenum. is this ok? (ie: i'm talking about the two studs that have the torx top). am i supposed to buy my own longer ones? what the heck?

right now theyre just there. i didnt bother removing it. i just used them to guide me when installing the spacer and gasket.

also, i torqued everything to within spec, except the middle bolt of the lower half of the group of bolts numbered 1 through 6. ( i cant recall the bolt number). that lower half middle bolt required a lot more tightening than any other bolt. i was pissing my pants each turn to fix the leak. i just read in another posting here that people have fixed this problem by replacing the cheap *** o-ring integrated washer with a full rubber one....

anyway, i'm really happy with this mod.... incredible piece.

You can replace those studs with some bolts, don't just leave them in you may end up with a leak down the road.

Freakin sweet, thanks for that. Interesting how the Z makes more and more power as you dyno it. Is this the ecu at work? What are your driving impressions?

I wish AAM would address another group buy..I've posted like three times with not even an acknowledgement =(

That would be me (full rubber)...seals air tight without heavy torquing. My instructions did include mention of the studs and said you can either leave them in and it will still seal fine even under boost applications or you can remove them with a torx bit and replace with standard bolts.

Funny, I've only driven it three times since install and I seem to notice more power down low then up top. My idle and throttle respose has improved but no real push at high rpm.

Do you think my lack of a catback exhaust could be the culprit? Maybe it's bottlenecking me at higher rpm?
