Default newbie questions

Okay, I've been reading this board for about 3 years now (since a little before I got my 03 Z) and I'm finally starting to mod it. I just got my Invidia G200 exhaust, and I want to get it installed, but I've got a few questions.

First, wtf do I do with my old one? Does the shop just scrap it, surely nobody is gonna want to buy my old stock exhaust that has nearly 30k miles on it.

Next, how long should I be expecting a shop to take installing it (I don't have the tools or knowledge to do it myself)? The place that I buy my tires from has really competative prices with online shops, and they also do exhaust systems, so I called them up. I was quoted 4 hours of labor, at $80 an hour -- this seems a bit high to me. Anybody know of a good place in Orange County that could install this for me?

Thanks in advance for the help

If it isn't knackered keep anything you take off your car - for two reasons really :

If you ever come to sell, you can get it all put back on and sell the car as stock, rather than something a boy racer has adorned with mods (not disrespect you understand, I be modding mine when it gets here)

Secondly if you don't like the mod you can always stick the stock parts back on and sell the extras on ebay and get some cash back - some mod crazy brit will probably snap it up.

I'm not sure on the exhaust question but I can't believe its gonna take four hours to fit unless they are cutting out your back bumper up or having to make special mounting out of precious metals ....... it take a kwik fit fitter all of 30 minutes to fit a new exhaust to a car (if you don't have kwik fit in the states I now sound very very stupid)

Have fun chap ..... remember mods are a bit like tats - addictive

keep the stock, and **** on those guys for telling you 4 hours! I did mine in 1hr, with my car on jackstands, and no light, easy!

If i was a shop id figure about 35 min to 1 hour max! so most places should charge you 1 hr. labor and even thats a rip off.

Man I have been reading that it only takes 30min to an hour to put it on. Its a bolt on mod that doesnt require welding or anything evasive. I wouldnt think that it would take 4 hours. Im getting on for my 04.5 and im going to try to put it on myself..and trust me im no expert. But to hear everyone talk..its a very simple installation. It is made for the car and there is no modifying the tubes. I would check somewhere else or search the links for more information on this..Good luck to you man!

I agree 100%. Keep all your stock parts. I made the mistake on my old car to sell my stock parts and now NO ONE will buy my old car. TRUST ME 1 DAY YOU WILL NEED THEM AGAIN.

And the place that told you 4 hours!!! HAHAHA Forget that place!
Max time should be 1 hour. MAX

Yea, I found a place that did it in just under an hour -- good shop for anybody in the OC "Mesa Muffler." Is the advice to keep all the parts applicable if you plan on keeping your car long term? I don't know how long I want to keep the car, but certainly for at least 5 or 6 years.

4 hours is bs. My friend installed a whole exhaust system in 2hours by himself in his auto tech class.

btw, i wouldnt go back to that shop... cuz
1. theyre trying to rip you off
or
2. they dont know what theyre doing.

either case deems that shop on your blacklist.

1. Keep the stock parts...
2. Register your new parts with the insurance if they are worth anything...especially wheels or they will not cover as had happened to me
3. Exhaust is really 1 hours if they dont eat you know what...

I'm worried to register my parts to my insurrance company, I've only got about 3k on the car so far (wheels and exhaust) but it'd still suck if something happened to my car. Do you just tell them that you upgraded your car? I'd be reluctant in the future to say that I added parts that increase the car's power output since I suspect that'd raise my rates more than adding, say, a stereo.
