Question about headers...Newbie question..
Ok I am a little new to the whole modding thing...only thing I have done is the K&N air in take...and I have Volk GT-P wheels...I am about to buy my exhaust..and I have extra money to spend..
The question is this...Why get headers? What exactly do they do...and why are the after market ones better...Basically whats the point of getting new headers...and is it a good upgrade, or are there other things I need to do first...Please let me know.

Headers are known to provide decent power gains at an affordable price. The standard estimates on header performance is around 15 hp, and up to 25-30 ft.lbs of torque - and we know it's all about the torque! Especially with these cars, where they seem to benefit the most!
A lot of headers for the 350Z have similar designs, and many people have wondered what difference does it make whether I buy this header or that...?
Power gains will not be significantly different between manufacturers. The main selling features are design, quality, and build... There are cheap "copycats" out there that make a header for the Z at a very affordable price, but the difference is the quality of the build. Some have already been known to break under normal "street use"... It's easy for companies to bend and weld pieces of pipe together, but when it comes to quality and performance, in a piece that will last the rigors of any kind of driving, there's certainly need for that consideration when making a purchase.
There were a couple of threads recently that discussed the best header and some seemed to be left wondering why they should spend the big bucks for just a name..? That's personal preference and peace of mind I suppose.
There's R&D time involved in making these pieces. And sometimes you do get what you pay for! ;o)

I suppose what I didn't clarify in the above message is that the differences between these headers compared to others is not going to be significant. There's only so much you can do with a header design to make it work effectively and produce results while fitting in the space alloted..

its a nice sales pitch....i got my dc sports for 350 shipped so i couldn't pass that deal up.
there are many header manufacturers out there and many factors that would effect my decision. that link i provided above is a good guideline to follow when making your decision. i do agree that most are going to be relatively the same as far as performance goes with the exception of crawford...who seem to have a few more ponies than the rest.

regarding dyno plots. truthfully? they are worthless. Let me show you why.....
This dyno plot is of my normally aspirated 1.9 liter 4cylinder honda motor. We dynod the car on a dynojet 248. The dyno is at the back of a shop thats long and narrow. NO VENTILATION. The roller is at the back of the shop with the other side facing the front (i'll locate a photo of what i'm talking about after this reply). Turbo vehicles are constantly being tuned and the shop is always filled with smoke. I want you to take notice of the CF(correction factor). If it wasn't for this specific facility this would be a false claim. you don't want to see correction factors of over say 1.02 or so. If my vehicle was dyno'd anywhere else and i saw a CF like this plot...i would say...bull crap its making more like 225whp. Allmotor vehicles want fresh cool air. It couldn't be more important. anyway...the plot.

when i hear dyno numbers...honestly it doesn't mean much to me unless i see performance numbers on track. Its more based off the design (diameters, merges etc) along with other performance modifications. Your buying quality when it comes to similiar designs nothing more. customer service is high up there as well.

if you know a little about header design....notice the collector, notice the antireversion chambers and notice the custom D shaped primaries. Now THATS a header. Your looking at an $1800 dollar header....NOT HEADERS.
There is far more into header design then slapping one together and saying look mom...its 69bucks off ebay.

don't believe dyno plots...they aren't that difficult to munipulate if one wanted to. The strup pieces are simply great quality and very affordable and without question comperable to any of the "great" or "better" headers out there.
as promised....the back end of the lovely dynofacility i used. notice the carbon on the wall. hows that for tight quarters. oh oh yeah..that fan? didn't work either. if you look at the back end of the car facing the enterance...its a hallway about 25' wide and 200' long.
if anyone is familiar with older shops in the Queens area of NYC. it use to be called Rampage Racing.

There is a dyno sheet link in the product description. This dyno result was submitted to Strup from an independent customer who dynoed his car with nothing more than this header installed on it. Of course, the car was a 350Z, but similar results can be expected on a G35 Coupe too. As has been speculated, manufacturer-produced dyno results could be biased toward positive results, but this is not the case with these results.

As for the rebate form.. my bad... I missed updating it.. It's been updated so you can download a new form. The rebate offer is from April 18th to May 18th - with submission needing to be postmarked to Strup by June 18th.

we will have to wait and see from those that buy your product and produce their own dynos to really see whats up; i am not trying to be difficult....its just that we have all seen this before. i hope that your results are legit....that just gives the z/g35 community more options from which to choose.

If i actually owned a 350z or G35 i'd be happy to give you more plots. At those prices your going to see some purchases and plots without question.

i can tell you as a consumer that what really matters is the hp, quality, cost, as well as how this part fits overall into your specific application

I'll work on some "dyno" numbers for you other then the very good one already posted. As i said...these header sets are high quality, great cost, fitment is super duper as well and they DO produce very good numbers. I posted what was readily available.
I'm a consumer as well...just of a couple other makes.
