I had checked with a nextgear vendor but they could not say if i would have hood clearance issues or not with the V5 plenum. They were willing to give me a deal to try it out, but I didn't want to go thru all the work to find I couldn't close the hood.

would the thickness of those gaskets really make the difference if you have the crawford plenum...they should be the same as the stock gaskets or a little bigger. these are supposed to replace the stock gaskets...not to be used + the stock gaskets as someone mentioned they did in this thread. that kinda defeats the purpose...these are a replacement for the stock gaskets

Its purpose was to insulate and seal, it was just alot easier to slide to new gasket over the old, instead of having to scrape it off as it was stuck. The gasket was thicker than stock by far, and can even be seen inbetween the lower plenum and manifold. I will take pictures as well. I found gasket by someone elses recomendation on the board, but i can't remeber the thread or who it was. I still would recommend..

i guess that would work...but that would increase the thickness and still transfer heat.

those stock gaskets are metal are they not?

Default gasket pics

So i'm not exactly sure of the stock material, and do not see how if it was sandwhiched how it would cause this not to work, as the Fisher speed gasket still provides the insulation or isolation between the two. And must have deleted the other email already, sorry.

the way i would do it if it were my car is to replace the stock gasket with the new gasket since the old ones are made of metal and transfer heat. i don't think these were designed to be used with the stock gaskets but to replace them. yours will still work but just not how i would have done the install.

I'm not trying to start anything, but what diffrence does it make which metal surface it contacts, both would be equallly hot, right? Now I can understand your reason for sealing, but I figured since I had never used this before, if i had a failure on the road for some reason, I could just pull it out, less parts to carry, but this has been fine. I must say, i was a bit worried about the seal of this strange material. No sense pulling it apart again.....

like i said...it probably doesn't make a difference the way you did the install...just that i think the gaskets were made to replace the stock ones. no big deal, you already stated that it reduces heat soak so they must be working and if you didn't have a proper seal you would surely notice. if its sealed your right...why pull it apart now...if it ain't broke don't fix it.

still need to get a hold of these guys so i can order a set....anyone get a reply?

I talked to Don @ NextGear. He said I could order just the manifold gasket for $59.95. I just wonder since I have it all apart if should just do the ones by the heads as well. Wondering how bad the install will be on those two. It's just an extra $40. He said they do make a difference.

Let me tell you, when you have the upper part off, its only a 2-3 inch shot right to the valves and you can see them. So it may make a difference, once again rising things up just a bit more. But the time the air passes thru that little section, how much will that little gain be, i'm not so sure. But it would be great to hear some results. Need one of those laser temp reader things...

i know they would make a difference...that upper plenum gets very hot

zul8r....do you have a phone #

also, if your going to do the gaskets that bolt to the engine block they will involve some work....looks like you might even need to remove fuel rails after removing the upper and lower plenum

I don't have a #. Just use the inquire button on the nextgear site. He got back to me in a couple hours. I'll probably get the whole kit.

I'd like to know how much the coolant bypass heats the plenums, have either of you bypassed that yet?

does the whole kit include the powergasket and the fisherspeed gasket types?

Well the Fisher kit came with it, but it nothing special. Just a barbed brass fitting used to connect the 2 hoses. Disconnect and reconnect simple.
