They don't sound good on a low compression car. Trust me I had them on my old car and it sounded like a chainsaw. You should get pipes at the end of the cutout so it points to the ground.

i never really did like this mod for this car. i unbolted my exhaust right after both cats about 2 months ago just for ***** and giggles. the sound is absolutely horrible from the v6. the smell is even worse. the car sounds like a garbage truck going down the road. i took it up on the highway for about a 1/2 mile and the power loss was unreal. i felt like my Z had the ebrake on the entire time. it sucked. i dont know how the car fairs with the cutouts but my experience sucked.

Default Cutouts

I've had them for over two years. When I bought test pipes I had them made with the cutouts. I've dyno'ed with them N/A and nitrous without a noticeable difference. I'm in the process of adding a TT and hoping they finally make a difference.

hey socalted how does the stillen sound with the hf cats and headers and intake? Is it loud or deep or what? If you could hit me up with some feedback it would be greatly appreciated. If you could describe or compare its loudness to stock or other exhausts, Thanx!

Cool idea, but nonetheless the back pressure drop as you witnessed is detremental to performance unless you have a fully built motor to back it up with high compression or of course FI. If it would benefit performance I would run with no exhaust at the track, but since it is detremental I leave everything on

The problem is the size, the exhaust is too big for your car and the cutouts kill velocity which will hurt power. I have one 2.5 inch cutout on my maxima, I gained 6whp and 2wtq with no loss anywhere in the curve. These were over a straight thru exhaust. The trick is to maintain velocity, backpressure is never a good thing.

I will dyno this weekend now that I have a 3.5 in the maxima to see what it will give now, the gains I stated were on my old 3.0 engine.

if you lose midrange then how about an rpm switch? that way the open up when you reach certain rpm. or you can open them by a switch after 2nd gear

Call me rice, but the reason I would get something like this is just to pop it open and throw a rev at an un-suspecting person. (would need a button inside the car.)

That would be awsome, ive been thinking about something like that that would open gradually over a certain RPM so its fully open at max RPM. This would get the sound increasing and climbing all the way to the top instead of peaking at max torque some 1.5k rpm below the redline.

This is my kind of mod, i might do it sometime in the future
