DVD/LCD install FINISHED!! (PIX)
For those that did not read my first post, here it is:
https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=22183
First of all, it too me 4 hours to install.
The hardest part was to put the dash back together...because there are more wires and stuff behind it, so took me quite a while to shove it back in.
enough the talk, here are the pix
first, the lcd is pretty good. as some of you might know, the compartment comes with a little metal thing that goes around it. i use that metal thing, turn it upside down, and then use it for the support of the bottom of the LCD. look at the pix if you dont understand what i mean:
This is where i placed my FM modulator
I ran the wires through the middle to the back (pic kinda dark)
hard wired the FM modulator and LCD
another view
Now, everything back together
My DVD
The switch for the Fm modulator and the remote IR (needs to be taped)

looks good real clean install.
if I had to make a comment, Id say consider painting the silver part around the screen, it sticks out and really emphasizes that it doesnt fill up the WHOLE area. if it were painted black itll possibly all blend in in the dark.
hows the modulator sound? any noise problems? hard to tell its location from the picture, is it right behind the screen? whyd you make that choice? wouldnt it be easier to mount in the rear where its technically closer to the antenna that its transmitting to?

Ares: the lcd might look weird on picture because of the flash...but in person, it matches with the 3 gauges above...
as for the FM modulator, it sounds clean. Where I placed it was behind the shifter under the white box. hope that helps

I like the install. I know this might be a stupid question, but is it possible to install a DVD player while keeping the stock head unit? I only ask this b/c I want the car to keep the "stock look". Thanks.

I think he did that... but yes it is totally possible, the screen goes in the nav area, the dvd unit can go anywhere you want. then you use the fm modulator to transmit the DVD sound to the radio to put it out of the speakers.
there is no reason not to keep the stock HU unless you just want to have an aftermarket one, or want to be able to directly input the sound into the headunit for higher quality.
