Hey all, i was wondering where you all got your pop chargers....did u all get it for a decent price? oh and how was the installation?

 

Why do I need this pop charger deal? To me it looks like my car has a built-in Cold Air Intake (2005 350Z Base). The air hose goes all the way to the front of the car and there is nothing in front of it so it will always get fresh, cold air. In addition the speed of the vehcile would appear to help force fresh air into the intake thus creating something of a natural mini-forced air induction system.

Is this new to 2005?

 

I got mine from performancenissan.com the cost was $120.00 plus tax and shipping. The Install was not bad a friend and I installed it in about an hour or so. The hardest part of the install was the two screws to connect it to the stock plastic lead by the bumper that connected to the stock airbox. We did the install lastnight and I don't think there is a big performance gain from the install but the sound this thing makes at 5000 rpm and WOT is like night and day. Your Z will go from purring kitten to growling lion while sucking in air with the new intake. I can see why people are so fond of this mod as it is cheap and easy to install.

I currently have an Injen short ram intake, I wonder if I would benefit from a popcharger or am I better off with what I have?

 

You wouldn't benefit from switching to the popcharger from a short-ram. Keep what you have unless you prefer the LOOK of the JWT.

 

People have repeatedly stated on these forums (as far as I can tell) that the stock intake is actually quite good.

IMO I would never bother simply getting an intake by itself. If you're thinking about upgrading, I would say to re-do your entire breathing system: intake, headers, high flow cats, exhaust. At that point, you will have to tune your ECU, there are companies that will do it for you... but the point is, don't waste your money thinking "swapping the intake will get me 10+hp according to this website!!" People have reported minimal hp gains over a short period of time, the increased hp will actually go away without ECU tuning, due to the ECU's feedback control loop.
