Help Ecu In Fail Safe Mode After Headers
I have 2003 350z vortech 3.12, enjen exhaust, gutted cats with 14,000 miles as is With basicly no problems.
Added Headers- Now ECU in fail Safe Mode after running car 12 mins on jack stands. (Mil VDC and Slip lights on, poor throttle responce)
Checked for Codes (p01122) Electronic Throttle Control Fuction
Erased Code- comes back in 3 seconds.
I have checked all connections 5 times.
I have talked with at least 5 experts, Phunk, ZCG, Splitsecond, Nissan and Technosquare.
Need Help Please, I'm an Old Man and done all the work myself.
This one just can't figure out.
Thanks Timrod

The same thing happen to me with the slip/vdc lights poor throttle response. I just simply forgot to plug in the throttle control harness. I dont want to insult your inteligence but are you sure that you have it pluged in? Maybe follow the wires back and see what you find. Sorry I cant help more I know how you are feeling. Good luck and if you figure it out be sure to let us know.
Yes I have VDC........Please read First Post.
1. checked all connections
2. erased code from ecu
3. did both relearn procedures for throttle.
within 3 sec after staring- code comes back VDC off light and Slip light on.
Thanks you all for helping.......
Experts Please......

I know this sounds funny, but anytime I have seen these conditions were on the dyno and on the lift . . .where the rear wheels can spin and not the front ones. Now why exactly that can set off a throttle DTC i dont know. Try to drive the car then reset the code.
Its funny that it took 12 min to set the code, that kinda tells me you do have all your wires connected, as you have already triple verified.
Do you have the FSM, if you dont I will email you the section you need with all the other checks you can do.
I will think about it some more while at lunch.

Thanks.
Yes, it was up on jack stands. I have not driven the car yet-but put it on the ground backed it up 15 ft and pulled it back in the garage.

In fact I was bringing the car up to Temp (12mins) then i reved it, thats when this all happened.
thanks very much VandyZ

I sent you the info you need.
Your last post is good info to know. So it did not throw the code till you reved . . . again I am sorry to say but this leads me to think that there is a connection problem somewhere. I trust you, and know you have checked.
Take a look at the manual and let me know if you have any questions about how to perform some of the checks.
You did not mess with the throttle pedal did you. If it gets bent or is outa wack the potentiometer (acceleration pedal position sensor) will cause all these issues as well. I have seen this when we bent the pedal arm to have better heel-toe position.

I'm no expert when it comes to this, but vdc should measure the speed of all four wheels, and then correct for it. If you revved the engine on jackstands while the car is in gear the rear tires would move, but the front tires would not, this would make the ecu think you are doing a burnout, right? My suggestion is to reset the ecu and drive it around the block, but remember I am no expert! This would explain why you only see this on a dyno, or on a lift though.
Again guys his car is in limp mode. I've been in this exact mode before, car runs pig rich, and can't rev past 2.5 grand. This was after I put my APS TT on. Drove it down the street, boosted it, ran great.. then all of a sudden after leaving a stop sign it went into limp mode, slip/vdc/check engine light turned on. The code it threw was something with the MAF.
Check to see if something foreign got into the maf sensor, since i'm sure you had to remove it to put the headers on. The MAF could have gotten damaged as well, or maybe some other part when it was off the car (drive by wire).
Good luck! After I cleared the code I never had it happen again.
