HKS Hi-Power Ti weight and install comments
For anyone interested: installed weight:HKS 56-1/2 #'s, stock 70-1/4 #'s.
I took these with a doctors type scale with me holding each part then adding them together. I figure it's pretty close since others have stated the stock Z's exhaust at 70lbs.
I just got through with the installation. VERY easy install imo. Just needed two socket wrenchs with two 14mm sockets(one deep well), 12mm socket, and small set of locking pliers.
Also used a floor jack and two jack stands along with some lube for the rubber hangers. I also used a third jack stand for holding up the muffler.
Took me about 3hrs including a quick sandwich for lunch. Like others have said, the biggest pain and time consumer was getting the oe muffler out. After that it was cake.
The HKS seems very well constructed with welds that Jessie James would be proud of. The finish is excellent also.
I haven't even takin it out for a spin yet so I can't say too much on the sound just yet. But I did do a first gear dash up the driveway and it sounded great. Not too loud which is a pleasant surprise.
Just for fun, when I had all the oe exhaust off I cranked her up with just the cats and let me tell ya...it was freakin loud.
It vibrated the whole garage. Dust was fallen everywhere. It actually had a really nice tone...but WAY TOO LOUD for street use.
I snapped a few pics which I'll have to figure out how to get them here. Plus Greg who sold me the sys. over @ GSCmotorsports.com wants a video so hopefully I'll get some video and get that going as well.
EDIT:
here's the individual piece weight of the HKS:
h-pipe/resonators(all in one piece):21 #'s
mid-pipe: 7 #'s
mufflers: drivers side 13-1/2#'s, passsenger side 14-1/2 #'s

Hey I just got my HKS today...Did yours come with any diagrams for the installation? Mine came with some pretty weak instructions. I guess the only thing Im not sure about is the arrangement of the washers and gaskets.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanx

Yah...instructions are VERY weak.
Note: None of the stock gaskets or hardware are reused.
Nothing tells you which side is up so lay it out on the ground on a blanket first just to get a feel for it. Keep in mind that the passenger side goes over the rear sway bar so it has more bends at the muffler.
The 2 smaller non-dimpeled, dark colored gaskets go in the connection between the resonators and the small mid pipe.
One bolt in the large bag of bolts is slightly shorter, it's used to reattach the ground strap to the tab on the drivers side muffler. New nuts for the cat/h-pipe connection is in the smaller bag.
As far as proper bolt and washer order:
bolt,large washer(pipe),large washer,lock washer,nut
Tips for removing the stock muffler once everything else is removed:
Lube the rubber hangers good with wd-40, start by slipping off the two rear most hangers first. Use something to hold up the muffler then use the 12mm socket to unbolt the front rubber hanger from the car. Once the muffler is on the ground it's now easy to slide the hanger off the muffler. Be sure to bolt that last hanger back onto the car before you start installing the HKS.
Don't worry if the HKS doesn't line up perfectly on the first try. I had to loosen-adjust-retighten and adjust the hangers a couple times before I got it just right.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Still working on the pics/video.
I had an unexpected favor to do this morning. I had to help my brother-in-law put a new motor mount in his camry. I've got to go to a baseball game tonight, but hopefully tommorow I'll have a chance to get the pics up somewhere.

Plus I was in a rush to take the pics this morning as my cams batteries were going dead. The towel(nice micro-fiber so no scratches
) was the only thing handy to block the plate. Besides...I trust no one... As to the splash guards...I've thought about removing them, but last week our "hickville" county road department decides to do a "redneck repave" on my road by first hosing it down with a tar/oil solution then dumping several truck loads of that white powdery gravel over it
I go like 10mph down my road right now, when my neighbors see me coming they all hurry up to get in their cars so they don't get stuck behind me.
I love the towel too, does that add any HP to the car.JK! I still haven't seen your car around. Most of the cars that I see roming around town are the ZR's w/ an exception of that guy driving a blueZ w/ a nismo spoiler who thinks he's all that. LOLZ
Ok ok with the towel envy.
You guys are embarassing me.
I'll be happy to tell you where to get one.
Myehrick,
I mostly get out early in the day(before 12pm) during the week. I'm pretty much a lame-a** home-body on the weekends. Can't stand dealing with Jackson traffic on the weekends.
I've passed that guy before while in my z. He just ignored me like he was to cool to throw a hand up for a fellow z'er.
By the way, I was driving right beside you last weekend.
We were going south on the bypass. If i recall...you turned left on airways, blvd. I was driving my mom's Honda Pilot though. At least I figure it was you since yours is the only ss z with the n1 style invidia around town that I know of.
Your invidia is pretty mean sounding for sure. I really like the rear facing "invidia" logo plate welded where the pipes seperate. Just from driving beside you it seems the invidia has a pretty aggressive sound right from intial throttle tip-in. Where with my hks, it's note is pretty tame till you get around 3000rpm, then it's a whole other story, the hks' sound really comes to life at higher rpm's.
Your tint looks nice. I went to talk with Brandon a couple weeks ago about doing mine. He showed me some new tint he can get that has titanium in it which gives it a slight "mirror" effect. It almost matches the ss paint when the sun hits it. Not sure what I going to do though. He qouted me $150 for the sides and rear. Didn't he do your for less $$$?

Ken -
yea, I might make a trip up there sometime to hear it. If you want, we are having another Z meet soon, maybe you can make it out. Would you be interested in coming to memphis for a Z meet and taking some professional pictures. We usually go out to eat, and them maybe go for a cruize, hit up back roads, or go drifting if circumstances are met. We also have a drift day in AR if you can make it. should be the third week of this month if you want to come. Let me know if you are interested!
